Guy Bourdin

Guy Bourdin
Guy Bourdin was born on
December 2nd, 1928 in Paris.
He died in Paris at the age of
62. Many said that he treated
with models cruelly and with
little to no respect. It is also
rumoured that he was
devestated and cranky over the
believed suicide of his wife,
and two girlfriends. His photos
were sometimes mysterious, or
strange. Some photos were
surreal, while some were filled
with sexuality or violence. Guy
became a huge influence,
especially on younger
generations of photographers
and their photography.
The photograph above is an
example of (Nails-Guy Bourdin
– French Vogue-1970). The
photo is in focus and has good
exposure so there is not much
depth of field. The subject
matter of the photograph is the
woman’s face, hands and the
colour red.
The photograph on the right is
a pastiche of Bourdin’s work. I
created an edited photogrpah
using Photoshop. I increased
exsposure levels and applied a
‘Paint Daubs’ filter.
