Canadian soldiers served in Afghanistan from 2002 to 2011, sacrificing time with their families to promote world peace. However, not all soldiers returned safely, with 158 members of the Canadian forces killed in action. The documents show both joyful reunions between returning soldiers and their families, as well as the deep sorrow felt by families of those who did not return. Photos depict children and spouses expressing love and relief at seeing their fathers/husbands again, as well as the pain of loss felt by those who lost sons and husbands in the war.
