The document discusses virtual research environments (VREs) at Utrecht University and Leiden University. Utrecht University has around 35 virtual knowledge centres across disciplines including geosciences, humanities, law, and medicine. Leiden University started its VRE program in 2009 across humanities, political science, and law. The VRE projects involve reference management, data management using Dataverse Network and SharePoint, identity management using university and publisher identity providers, and organizing conferences. A national project in the Netherlands is working to integrate reference managers, data repositories, and repositories into VREs and contribute to the next version of the Research Information Cloud.
