ETHICS/MORALS PURE LOGIC EMOTION
Ethos: Trustworthiness
• Take someone or yourself as someone who is
respected, likeable and has a good reputation.
• Here are some of the ways you can use it to
your advantage.
• Listen to someone who knows a lot about this
topic...
• I'm sharing what I've learned from my
experience...
• Experts agree that...
• As a [teacher/doctor/scientist], I can tell you
that...
• You can count on me to give you accurate
information...
• Believe me, I'm really familiar with this subject...
• I've spent a lot of time studying this, and here's
what I found...
Logos: Fact-based appeal
means persuading using reasoning
-Use of statistics is popular
-Focus on facts, recorded evidence, historical data
-Can mention studies, surveys
-here are some of the languages you can try
1. Let's be logical and figure out...
2. When we think carefully, we'll realize that...
3. This idea is reasonable because...
4. We can trust this because it's based on...
5. Lets break it down step by step.
6. These facts prove my point.

Pathos : Emotional appeal
Persuade by appealing to the listeners emotion:
Your language choice affects your listeners emotional response either positively or negatively.
Here are some of the ways in which you can appeal emotionally to persuade.
1.Think about how happy it would make you.
2.Imagine how nice that could feel.
3.Help others and feel good about it.
4.See the smiles it could bring.
5.Make a change and feel proud.
6.Picture how much better things could be.
7.Think of the good feelings we can create.
8.Imagine how this could help people.
9.Feel happy by doing something kind.

Identify the scenarios whether it is pathos,
logos or ethos?
Scenario 1: A celebrity endorsing a fitness product because they claim
to have personally benefited from it.
Language: Ethos
Scenario 2: A poster showing a starving child in a war-torn region,
asking for donations to provide food and shelter.
Language: Pathos
Scenario 3: A politician giving a speech about a new economic policy
and presenting data on how it will boost the country's GDP.
Language: Logos
