The Persian tiger or Caspian tiger (Panthera tigris virgata) is now extinct. It lived in areas including Anatolia, the Caucasus, Kurdistan, Iraq, north of Iran, Afghanistan, and Central Asia. It had a yellow to gold coat with brown striped that could also be yellow. Caspian tigers were solitary outside of breeding season and females would give birth to 2-3 cubs after a 100 day gestation. The species became extinct due to being used in Roman arenas against gladiators and overhunting by Russians.
