Persevere to Progress February 7, 2010 Horton Road Church of Christ
We all face situations we need to persevere through
Joseph persevered through uncertainty “ Joseph's master took him and put him in prison.” (Genesis 39:20)
Perseverance enables us to know certainty even during uncertainty [Joseph said to his brothers,] “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done.” (Genesis 50:20)
Moses persevered through a bad and slow start “ Pharaoh gave this order to the [overseers]: 'You are no longer to supply the people with straw for making bricks; let them go and gather their own straw. But require them to make the same number of bricks as before.'” (Exodus 5:6-7)
Perseverance enables us to finish strong “ There the LORD showed him the whole land [and] said to him, 'This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, “I will give it to your descendants.”'” (Deuteronomy 34:1-4)
James teaches us that trials test our faith and produce perseverance “ Consider it pure joy...whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. (James 1:2-3)
Perseverance enables us to mature in faith and become complete Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete....” (James 1:4)
We progress through perseverance
Do not focus on the uncertainty the bad or slow start the trial
Focus on what God is doing in you
