This presentation shows the design process behind Gurby, a unique drawstring bag with four movable divisions to accommodate your sporting needs.
Includes the pros and cons of a drawstring bag compared with other bags, the history of drawstrings, the inspiration behind the design, the components and features of the bag, as well as the possible points for improvement.
I hope that you would like the design process behind this and be inspired to create your own works of art. Enjoy!

3. What is a Perpetual Flip
Calendar?
✗ A calendar that can be flipped
for many years
✗ Involves numbers placed in a
box that can be rotated to adjust
for the current day
✗ Perpetual calendars have
existed since early 1500’s
3
6. 6
How does it work?
✗ The first number (the black block) will be seen first
through the first hole
✗ The calendar will be flipped counterclockwise making
the black block go to the other side
✗ The second number (the white block) will be seen next
through the 2nd hole
✗ The process can be repeated indefinitely
8. Things to consider
Quality of Wood
The quality of wood
gravely affects the whole project.
Both the aesthetics and the
strength of the wood can
determine how the project will go
Measurements
The measurements
done in VCarve should be really
accurate. A few millimeters of
mistakes can make your flip
calendar unusable
Amount/Size of Wood
The size of the
wood determines the
measurements of the calendar. It
should be enough for the whole
project and if it isn’t, you need to
adjust or buy wood.
8
How to connect the
wood
There are several ways to
connect each part of the wood.
Better connections can be done
provided the correct equipment
The Calendar Numbers
The amount of
dates that you would put inside
the flip calendar should be
determined at first. The way the
numbers are placed in the block
should be considered
Kind of Calendar Stand
The Calendar
stand is optional for the project.
There are several ways to do it
depending on how you want.
9. 9
Calendar Numbers
✗ Create the block size on VCarve( 5 x 6 x 1 cm)
✗ 17 wood blocks are cut using CNC
✗ The blocks are printed with numbers (1 to 31, Next
month, and 2 Flip) by rastering through the laser cutter
✗ Sand the blocks. After sanding, varnish them.
11. 11
Calendar body
✗ Make the design for the calendar body through
VCarve (1 17 x 11 x 1.5 cm, 2 17 x 7.2 x 1.5 cm, 2 11
x 7.2 x1.5 cm). Note that 0.75 cm deep pockets would
be placed based on the design.
✗ Cut these designs using VCarve
✗ Sand to make them fit snuggly
13. 13
Calendar body
✗ Varnish each part and connect them using glue
✗ Cut a 17 x 11 cm acrylic cover one side of the
calendar
✗ Place the acrylic cover using a self-adhesive
16. 16
Calendar stand
✗ Create a design on VCarve (1 15 x 17 x 1.8 cm, 1 9 x
10 x1.8 cm, 1 9x 17 x 18 cm). Note that a 9x 2 x1.8
cm block should be removed from the 15 x 17 x 1.8
cm block. 0.9 cm pockets should be placed on the two
other blocks
✗ Sand the blocks
✗ Connect the two blocks with the pockets through glue
✗ Place the connected blocks to the hole in the other
block. Sand the hole to make the block fit.
