The strategic goal of one of Perot Systems' healthcare system clients was
to link into physician practices. The healthcare system's managed care
business unit not only wanted to align more closely with physicians, but
wanted to provide a means to streamline communications and
workflow. A Perot Systems utilized the healthcare system's existing
Intranet to implement a Web-based solution that provides electronic
business transactions to physician offices, including member eligibility
and benefit inquiries, access to provider directories, physician referrals,
and authorization checking. The results have included:
111 24-hour access from the Web, with no call waiting
• Reduced administrative costs because of decreased phone calls and
streamlined manual processes
• Enhanced communication to the provider community
n Increased access to managed care data without increased cost
Perot Systems has also customized a hospital's local Intranet to provide
physicians and office managers easy access to clinical and demographic
patient data from their desktop application. Patient demographic
information is organized on the screen in a format consistent with the
hospital's tool to access contact, employment, admission, and insurance
data. Results include reduced paperwork and administrative costs,
improved self service, and more efficient use of nursing staff time.
