Wyeth Farmacêutica, a large pharmaceutical company in Brazil, implemented the TrakSYS production monitoring system to improve productivity across eight packaging lines. The system provided real-time data on line efficiencies and bottlenecks, enabling faster root cause analysis of performance issues. After deploying TrakSYS, Wyeth's overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) improved from 23% to 51% and production output doubled, allowing them to eliminate a production shift. TrakSYS helped establish a culture of continuous improvement and gave operators the data they needed to make regular decisions leading to higher productivity.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Testimonial
"Once TrakSYS™ was deployed, we were able to quickly and effectively evaluate the root causes of poor
performance. The initial focus of the project was on improving productivity for lines responsible for
hormonal products. Within the first 12 months after deploying TrakSYS™, we had already improved average
OEE by 100%."
Francisco Xavier
Production Manager
Background
Wyeth, is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. The company is well-known for
manufacturing the over-the-counter (OTC) drugs Robitussin and the analgesic Advil (ibuprofen), as well as
the prescription drugs Premarin and Effexor.
On 25 January 2009, Pfizer agreed to the purchase, Wyeth. The deal was completed on 15 October 2009.
The site in Itapevi manufactures analgesics (Advil), antacids, and cold and flumedicines (Dimetapp elixir,
liquid-gel, expectorant) and a wide range of prescription drugs.
Challenges
Establishing an effective productivity culture
Accuracy and timeliness of manufacturing data.
Production capacity improvement of existing assets (without major investment in infrastructure).
Cost reduction through continuous and sustainable performance improvement.
Goals
Have clear understanding of production capacity and bottlenecks.
Measure production line efficiencies (using OEE).
Establish a best practice for operator involvement to achieve sustainable improvement through
visual KPI management.
Deploy a scalable solution that fits within existing infrastructure without disrupting production, and
meeting the strict IT requirements.
Be able to benchmark and measure progress on a regular basis (proof of ROI).

Solution Architecture
TrakSYS™ was deployed on a single server with operator interfaces for eight finishing/packaging
lines.
Use data collectors with high-speed I/O, networked via Ethernet LAN, capturing raw production
data from various production systems.
8 EVENTTrak™ operator interface nodes throughout the facility to enable interaction with the
systems (e.g., visualization of KPIs and losses, downtime management, root cause analysis, and data
contextualization).
Plant-wide user workstations to view production and performance information via standard
browser technology.
Figure 1 - System Architecture
Readily complying with corporate IT standards, simplicity of deployment, scalability of software, use of
existing infrastructure without change, and no disruption to ongoing production were the main reasons for
Wyeth Indústria Farmacêutica Ltda. to choose TrakSYS™ for their continuous improvement platform.

Results
There were several functional benefits that were realized quickly after deployment of TrakSYS™:
TrakSYS™ helped to significantly improve the continuous improvement culture
Operator involvement and commitment to improvement was established
Improved root cause analysis
Availability of needed information for fast response to problems
Consistent availability of accurate production data
Average OEE was improved from 23% to 51%
Production output was doubled
Second production shift was eliminated because of capacity increase
Today, the primary process unit (PPU) team takes advantage of the real-time performance information —
managed and contextualized by TrakSYS™ — to understand the cause of production problems quickly, and
to make decisions that regularly lead to improved productivity.
