Product Design Trends in 2024 | Teenage EngineeringsPixeldarts
The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

With over one billion views in a year, it’s no wonder that so many speakers are looking to TED for ideas on how to share their message more effectively.
The article “5 Public-Speaking Tips TED Gives Its Speakers”, by Carmine Gallo for Forbes, gives speakers five practical ways to connect with their audience, and effectively share their ideas on stage.

KANAVASTA
Leonardo
Gialloreti
Kun
olin
kuusitoistavuotias
joskus
70-‐luvun
lopulla,
yhteisössämme
meillä
oli
hyvä
suhde
protestanttisen
papin
kanssa
ja
usein
hän
saarnasi
meidän
yhteisössämme.
Eräänä
päivänä
hän
sanoi:
”
-‐ Leonardo,
sinun
pitäisi
lukea
kertomus
Laupiaasta
Samarialaisesta,
ääneen”.
Kun
tulin
kertomuksen
loppuun,
lopetin
lukemisen.
-‐ Jatka,
hän
sanoi.
-‐ Mutta
tarinahan
loppui
jo
tähän,
sanoin.
-‐ Laupiaan
samarialaisen
tarinan
jälkeen
tulee
kertomus
Martasta
ja
Mariasta.
Sinun
tulee
aina
lukea
myös
tämä
toinen
tarina,
koska
ne
kuuluvat
yhteen,
hän
jatkoi.
Ensimmäinen
kertomus
kertoo
meille
kuinka
jokaisen
meistä
tulee
pysähtyä
köyhien
luokse.
Laupias
Samarialainen
on
kovin
käytännöllinen
kertomus,
jossa
tehdään
käytännöllisiä,
sosiaalisia
ja
konkreettisia
asioita.
Et
voi
lopettaa
kertomuksen
lukemista
tähän
vaan
pitää
jatkaa.
Martan
ja
Marian
kertomuksessa
Jeesus
selvästi
sanoo
asiat
aivan
päinvastoin.
Martta
on
siinä
aktiivinen
ja
toimelias,
mutta
Maria
ei
tee
mitään.
Hän
vain
istuu.
Voisimme
pitää
häntä
laiskana.
Mutta
Jeesus
sanoo,
että
hän
valinnut
sen
parhaan
osan.
Nämä
tarinat
liittyvät
yhteen.
Jos
et
opi
istumaan
ja
kuuntelemaan
Jeesusta,
et
muista
ensi
kerralla
pysähtyä
sen
köyhän
luona,
jonka
kohtaat.
Sen
vuoksi
pitää
joka
päivä
tulla
uudestaan
Jumalan
sanan
ääreen.
Että
meillä
olisi
silmät,
jotka
näkevät
sen
haavoittuneen
siellä
kadulla.
Siinä
mielessä
olemme
kaikki
diakoneja.
Kuvia

Kuvissa
vietetään
joulua
köyhien
kanssa.
Kirkko
on
täynnä
katettuja
pöytiä.
Se
on
ihana
joululounas
joulukuun
25.
päivänä.
Kun
aloitimme
tämän
80-‐luvulla,
monet
pahastuivat.
He
sanoivat,
että
siinä
ei
kunnioiteta
rakennusta.
Yritimme
sanoa,
että
nämä
köyhät
ovat
meidän
perheemme,
joiden
kanssa
vietämme
joulua.
KESKUSTELUSTA
POIMITTUA
• Olisipa
hieno
homma,
jos
vaikka
Hämeenlinna-‐Vanajan
seurakunnan
kirkko
olisi
jouluaamuna
täynnä
ihmisiä
aamukahvilla.
• Ihmisillä
on
nälkä
joka
päivä.
Olisiko
mahdollista
useammin
syödä
yhdessä?
• Aina
kysytään
onko
meillä
varaa
siihen?
(aterioiden
järjestämiseen)
• Entäs
se
ihmisten
yksinäisyys?
Miten
seurakunnassa
voitaisi
sitä
hoitaa?
Yksinäisyys
on
yhtä
suuri
nälkä
kuin
se
konkreettinen
leivän
nälkä.
• Älkää
olko
huolissanne
siitä,
mitä
teette.
Huolehtikaa
siitä,
millaisia
olette.
Jos
teidän
olemisenne
on
hyvää,
teidän
tekonne
ovat
häikäiseviä.
• Kuinka
alussa
me
olemmekaan
tässä
jumalanpalveluskuviossa?
Ei
tarvitse
olla
erillisiä
messuja
erilaisille
ihmisille
vaan
voisimme
olla
kaikki
yhdessä.
• Esirukous
kerätään
niiltä
ihmisiltä,
joiden
kanssa
olen
juuri
silloin
tekemisissä,
esim.
vanhainkodin
sairasosastolta.
• Tarvitseeko
kirkon
olla
tällainen
sosiaalitoimisto?
• Mikään
ei
ole
niin
terävänäköinen
kuin
rakkaus?
Se
näkee
kuinka
sinä
voit.
Rakkaus
löytää
kielen,
jolla
pääsee
toisen
ihmisen
luokse.
2. Gialloreti:
Joululounas
on
tapa
puhua
sitä
kieltä,
mitä
köyhät
ymmärtävät.
Lounas
muussakin
paikassa
täyttäisi
vatsan,
mutta
ruokailu
kirkossa
kertoo
myös
Jumalan
rakkaudesta.
Lapset
jakavat
juhlassa
lahjan
jokaiselle.
Lahjassa
on
vastaanottajan
nimi.
Se
ole
vain
jokin
lahja
vaan
jotain
sellaista,
jota
juuri
sinä
saattaisit
tarvita.
Esim.
sille,
joka
asuu
kadulla,
jotain
sellaista,
josta
on
hyötyä
kadulla.
Mutta
voidaksesi
antaa
sellaisen
lahjan,
sinun
on
tunnettava
lahjan
vastaanottaja.
Sillä
tavalla
voi
tuntea
vain
ihmisen,
joka
on
niin
kuin
perheenjäsen
tai
ystävä.
En
elä
perheeni
kanssa
vain
joulupäivänä.
Kaikki
ihmiset,
jotka
tulevat
joulupäivänä,
ovat
tuttuja
vuoden
varrelta
ja
joululounas
on
vain
vuoden
huippukohta.
Kukaan
ei
tunne
kaikkia
nimeltä,
mutta
jokaisen
henkilön
jokainen
tuntee
nimeltä.
Erityisen
tärkeää
on
muistaa
nimeltä
joku,
jonka
nimen
kaikki
muut
unohtavat.
Luukkaan
evankeliumissa
on
kertomus
rikkaasta
miehestä,
joka
syö
pöydän
ääressä
ja
köyhästä
miehestä
pöydän
alla,
joka
syö
pöydältä
putoilevia
muroja.
Kertomuksesta
avautuu
monta
asiaa.
Yksi
kohta
tästä
kertomuksesta
on
erityisesti
koskettanut
minua.
Rikkaan
miehen
nimeä
ei
tunneta,
hän
on
vain
rikas
mies.
Köyhä
mies
tunnetaan
nimeltä.
Hänen
nimensä
on
Lasarus.
Tämän
on
juuri
päinvastoin
kuin
yleensä.
Kaikki
tuntevat
rikkaat
nimeltä,
mutta
harva
tuntee
köyhät
nimeltä.
Tätä
on
Jumalan
logiikka.
Sen
mukaan
meidän
tulee
elää.
Se
tarkoittaa
sitä,
että
tunnemme
ihmiset
nimeltä.
Ihmiset
joskus
yrittävät
laskea
kuinka
moni
ihminen
tietää
minun
nimeni.
Moni.
Mutta
maailmassa
on
paljon
ihmisiä,
joiden
nimeä
kukaan
ei
tiedä.
Rakkauden
kieli
alkaa
siitä,
että
alamme
tuntea
ihmisten
nimiä
ja
kutsua
heitä
nimellä.
Ei
riitä,
että
tiedämme
sen
nimen
vaan
että
kutsumme
ihmisiä
sillä
nimellä.
KESKUSTELUA
• Olemmeko
me
ujoja
kristittyjä?
Osaammeko
näyttää
ja
miten
näyttää
luontevasti
omaa
uskoaan?
Tarjosin
töissä
kirkkokahvit,
kun
tulin
valituksi
kirkkovaltuustoon.
Yksi
sanoi,
ettei
kuulu
kirkkooon.
Sanoin,
että
kyllä
hänkin
saa
silti
juoda
kahvit.
• Kirkon
kevät
on
se,
kun
kirkko
on
kiinnostunut
siitä,
mistä
Jeesus
oli
kiinnostunut.
• Yksi
kirkon
tehtävä
on
löytää
sinne,
missä
on
hätä.
• Kuka
onneton
niitä
strategioita
jaksaa
lukea?
• Jos
aina
pitää
reagoida,
kuka
ehtii
ajatella?
• Rakenteet.
Meidän
pitäisi
päästä
tästä
työntekijät-‐seurakuntalaiset
asetelmasta
eteenpäin.
Meidän
rakenteissa
on
paljon
osaavia
ammattilaisia
ja
työntekijöitä.
Miten
voisimme
avata
työtoveruuttamme
seurakuntalaisille?
Seurakuntalaiset
eivät
ole
vain
vapaaehtoisia
vaan
osallisia
toimijoita.
• Kun
halutaan
olla
köyhien
rinnalla,
ei
vain
taputettaisi
olkapäälle,
vaan
toimittaisi
niin
kuin
Jeesus
ja
kysyttäisi,
mitä
sinulle
kuuluu,
mitä
sinä
haluaisit.
• Työntekijöiden
tulee
toimia
seurakuntalaisten
kanssa,
kautta
ja
avullansa.
Jos
työntekijät
toimivat
niin
kuin
työntekijät
ei
se
ole
vielä
mitään.
Seurakuntalaisten
tulee
saada
tehdä
niitä
asioita
missä
he
ovat
hyviä.
• Olimme
kuukausi
sitten
Roomassa
Gialloretin
vieraana.
Sen
jälkeen
ei
ole
mennyt
päivääkään,
etten
olisi
miettinyt
sitä
matkaa.
Olen
miettinyt
sen
jälkeen
näitä
meidän
rakenteita.
Ne
ovat
hyvät
ja
kauniit,
mutta
jotain
ne
myös
tukahduttavat.
• Mummo
meni
polvilleen
aina
kuin
tuli
tiukat
ajat.
Olisiko
nyt
aika
meidän
mennä
polvilleen
tämän
asian
kanssa?
• Kampaajan
tarjous
–
yksi
kampaaja
lahjoitti
lahjakortteja
diakoniatyöntekijän
kautta.
Toinen
kassillisen
kampaamotarvikkeita.
Yksi
kampaamolahjakortin
vastaanottaja
oli
89-‐vuotias,
joka
halusi
kerran
vielä
päästä
kampaajalle.
Lahjakorttia
viedessä
vanhus
pyysi,
että
voitaisiko
rukoilla
yhdessä.
•
Gialloreti
3. • Kuunteleminen
on
herättänyt
monia
ajatuksia.
Kerroit
kampaajasta.
Se
ei
ole
minun
ongelmani,
mutta
monille
köyhille
se
on.
• Pietarinkirkon
aukiolla
voitte
nähdä
jotain
uutta.
Viisi
päivää
sitten
Paavi
avasi
siellä
suihkuja,
vessoja
ja
parturin,
joita
kodittomat
voivat
käyttää.
Kirkon
oikealla
puolella,
pylväskäytävässä,
Berninin
taiteteosten
lähellä,
on
nyt
nämä
vessat
yms.
Se
on
rakkauden
kieltä.
• Kun
St.
Egidion
yhteisö
syntyi,
laupiaan
samarialaisen
kertomusta
tulkittiin
hyökkäyksenä
rakenteita
vastaan.
Kuka
ei
se
pysähtynyt
avuntarvitsijan
luokse?
Ihmiset
alkoivat
tulkita
kertomusta
poliittisesti.
Niin
evankeliumia
ei
yleensäkään
pidä
lukea.
Ei
pidä
lukea
sitä
niin,
että
minä
olen
hyvä,
koska
olen
niin
kuin
hyvä
samarialainen.
Evankeliumia
ei
koskaan
tule
lukea
niin,
että
se
asettaa
ihmiset
toisiaan
vastaan.
• Rakenteet.
En
ole
niin
huolissani,
niistä
rakenteista,
joita
meillä
on
ympärillämme.
Olen
huolissani
niistä
rakenteista,
joita
minulla
on
mielessäni.
Siitä,
että
päivässä
olisi
hetki
jolloin
lakkaan
olemasta
kristitty,
lakkaan
vastaamasta
puhelimeen,
kuulemasta
ihmisten
hätää.
• Palkkatyöntekijän
ja
vapaaehtoisten
erottelu.
Ei
sillä
ole
väliä,
oletko
palkattu
vai
et.
Tärkeintä
on
havaita,
että
kaikki
meidät
on
kutsuttu.
Jo
sana
vapaaehtoistyöntekijä
pitää
sisällään
sen,
että
teen
jotain
vapaaehtoisesti.
Raamatussa
opetuslapset,
ja
myös
VT:n
profeetat,
oli
kutsuttu.
He
eivät
toimineet
omasta
tahdostaan.
Ei
opetuslapset
olleet
mitään
vapaaehtoisia
uskon
sankareita.
He
vastasivat
kutsuun.
Jumalaa
ei
kiinnosta
saatko
palkkaa.
Se
on
meidän
ongelmamme.
Olennainen
kysymys
on
se,
vastaanko
kutsuun.
Keskustelusta
• Uusia
termejä
korvaamaan
”vapaaehtoistyöntekijä”
–termiä:
kumppani,
kutsuttu.
…
• Virheiden
pelko
estää
meitä
auttamasta
ihmisiä.
• Nimeltä
kutsuminen.
Pieni
lapsi
sisäistää
rakkauden
vanhempiensa
kasvoista.
Voisimmeko
oppia
katsomaan
iloisesti
kaikkia
tuttuja,
jotka
tapaamme
messussa?
• Voisimmeko
puhua
kaikista
vain
seurakuntalaisina?
• Taidamme
olla
nyt
etsikkoajassa.
• En
tykkää
vapaaehtoinen
–sanasta.
Haluan
olla
seurakuntalainen.
Toivon,
että
työntekijät
mahdollistavat
seurakuntalaisten
toimimisen.
Yhdessä
tekeminen
tuntuisi
hyvältä.
• Meidät
on
kukin
kutsuttu
kantamaan
Kristuksen
ristiä
omalla
paikallamme.
Gialloretti
• Mikä
on
ensimmäinen
askel
miten
pääsee
mukaan?
Mikä
on
päämäärä?
”If
you
aim
at
nothing
you
will
hit
it.”
• En
voi
antaa
yleistä
vastausta
vaan
voin
puhua
vain
henkilökohtaisesta
kokemuksesta.
Ensimmäinen
askel
on
lähteä
ulospäin,
ei
jäädä
vain
sisälle.
Olen
osa
kirkkoa
myös
silloin,
kun
kävelen
kadulla
tai
olen
sairaalassa.
Kirkon
elämä
ei
ole
sen
aktiviteeteissa
vaan
sen
elämä
on
siellä
missä
kristityt
ovat.
Se
on
kirkon
elämä.
Kun
käyn
sairaalassa
tapaamassa
jotain
sairasta
vanhusta,
vaikka
en
tee
ns.
virallisia
toimia,
olen
kuitenkin
osa
kirkkoa.
Ensimmäinen
askel
on
mennä
seinien
ulkopuolelle.
Se
on
opetuslasten
elämää.
• Ajoittain
opetuslapset
tulevat
yhteen
Jeesuksen
luokse.
Mutta
kun
he
tulevat
yhteen,
he
eivät
puhu
itsestään
vaan
siitä,
mitä
he
tekivät
maailmassa.
He
puhuvat
siitä,
mitä
he
ovat
kokeneet
seinien
ulkopuolella.
Siitä
syntyy
innostus.
• Enthusiasm
–sana
tulee
kreikankielestä
ja
tarkoittaa
olla
Jumalan
inspiroima.
Se
ei
tarkoita,
että
kristitty
olisi
naiivi.
Päinvastoin:
risti
on
todellisuutta.
Elämässä
voi
olla
innostunut,
koska
Jumala
antaa
innostuksen,
vaikka
risti
on
todellinen.
• Päämäärä
on
Jumalan
valtakunta.
Usein
ihmiset,
jotka
yrittävät
rakentaa
Jumalan
valtakunnan
maanpäälle,
onnistuvat
luomaan
helvetin.
Jumalan
valtakuntaa
voi
rakentaa,
mutta
pitää
jättää
4. Jumalalle
se,
millainen
siitä
tulee
ja
milloin
se
on
valmis.
Hyvä
on
auttaa
jokaista
kantamaan
ristiään
tässä
maailmassa.
