Connecting Comcast and SKY: Using the Dojo Format with International TeamsMichael Scott Winslow
When Comcast acquired SKY Communications in 2018, there was sure to be an interest in teams working closely together on both sides in order to explore which products and services would work nicely together.
These explorations were driven largely by senior leadership and focused on big ticket, highly visible products and projects.
But when the DNS teams from the two companies came together last year, it was not because a senior leader asked them to connect. Instead, it was a love for DevOps! Two members of the SKY DNS team were invited to speak at Comcast's internal DevOps conference last year, and they were greeted by our Comcast DNS teams who were eager to work with them on a shared DNS Management System.
While the motivation to work together was evident, the distance and time difference between London and Philadelphia was not an easy obstacle to navigate. We decided to try using techniques from the "The Dojo Handbook" and the results were fantastic! We were amazed how, even as remote teams, we were able to benefit from immersion, micro-sprints, a working charter and constant feedback loops.
We are going to share our story on how these teams decided not to wait to be tapped by Senior Leadership in order to work together, the issues we overcame working internationally, and the success we achieved using the Dojo approach to coordinate.

The use and benefits of digital operations at Abu Dhabi airport – Although the use of mobile solutions has increased drastically in the past years, still the construction industry is heavily biased towards the use of paper. Digital pen technology can revolutionize the collection of construction site information yet maintaining the traditional methods of paper usage for reporting. It is becoming more widespread in construction sector amid its benefits in speeding up the process of collecting information and increasing accuracy though the integration of handwriting technology.
In this session, we will discuss the ROI of implementing digital pen technology in the construction sector, based on a use-case implementation in an Airport project; measuring the productivity impact of digital pen implementation versus tradition pen and paper process.
LF_APIStrat17_Creating an API Ecosystem that Benefits Producers and ConsumersLF_APIStrat
A few years ago, Brigham Young University set out to replace an aging API Ecosystem. The ecosystem at the time was one that was hard to navigate, contained outdated documentation, centered around non-standard authentication, and resistant to rapid iteration and a DevOps model. Noting these issues, BYU set out to create an API Ecosystem that would be a joy to use for both the API Developers, as well as their consumers. A large part of this effort has been focused around the adoption of several open standards such as OAuth2.0, JSON Web Tokens, and the OpenAPI specification. The adoptions of these standards has allowed BYU to create a system that is making API deployment and documentation easy on the developers, promises consumers up to date documentation, and allows both parties to utilize the vast number of Open Source libraries available to interact with these open standards.
