Peer Assessment: Unit 2 Skills Development for Live Performance
Comment on the following skills and attributes from rehearsals and workshops
Physical Skills
Olivia Mills is very good at picking up the
choreography fast. She is good with timing
as she can dance to the beats and rhythm
of the music. She has good stamina and is
good at keeping up throughout the whole
performance and is very good with using all
the space and traveling throughout her solo.
She is very good with learning new dance
styles as she has never done hip hop
before and has pick up many different styles
of hip hop quickly such as krumping and
house, she is also very good as musical
theatre as and has choreographed her solo
in that style. Olivia is also very good at
characterisation with her movement, but
she could work on her facial expressions
and make them angrier and scarier like the
queen of hearts.
Interpretive Skills
Olivia has a very good understanding of the
whole performance and the message
behind it as well as having a good
understanding of each character. She has a
very good understanding of the characters
roles and how we as the characters need to
interact with each other throughout all
repertoires. She has a very good
relationship with the music and is very good
at keeping up and dancing with the music.
One thing Olivia could work on is being
more confident when she is teaching
choreography to the rest of the class and
when she is learning choreography, what
she creates is very good, but she needs to
be confident in what she teaches and
learns.
Personal Management
Olivia has had very good punctuality and is always showing up to lessons on time, she is
always ready to work and warms up when she gets in. She always has the correct clothes
and always makes sure she is not wearing her Jewlery. She always comes motivated and
ready to learn to every lesson and always listens to what she is being told. One thing
Olivia could work on is making sure she has a hair tie and has her hair tied up every
lesson.
Response to peer assessment:
Over this unit I will continue to work on my facial expressions, this is a skill I hope to develop
further when working on the MHTP, to do this I will complete more research into the Queen
of Hearts, this includes researching borderline personality disorder (BPD) as this is
something the Queen is struggling with and also watching clips of both the original and
current production of Mad Hatter’s, focusing on the Queen of Heart’s gestures and facial
expressions. I am also planning further research her character by reading the MHTP script.
This will help me understand her attitude more. Overall, I feel that portraying this character
entirely through movement has been harder than anticipated, as someone with an acting
background rather than a dance one, it has been a challenge for me to develop this
character without the use of voice. Another thing I will continue to work on as suggested is
my confidence. This is also one of my SMART targets and something I am aware I need to
develop. To build my confidence I am trying to push myself out of my comfort zone, this
includes in my dance lessons outside of school rehearsing and performing in the front line
rather than the back one. I am also trying to develop my confidence in lessons as well; this
includes suggesting choreography ideas to the group and occasionally leading warmups. I
think that having to teach the class the choreography to my solo will also help improve my
confidence as it will force me to take a leadership role within the team.
