Peer Assessment: Unit2 Skills Development for Live Performance
Comment on the following skills and attributes from rehearsals and workshops
Physical Skills:
When dancing Hannae has shown
good posture and mannerism
regarding her character as she is a
rabbit and that is shown clearly
through her presentation of herself
and how she holds herself through
dancing and acting which creates a
clear idea to the audience of who her
character is just through her
mannerisms. However, Hannae could
work on her characterisation a little
bit more on the mental health
struggles side and portraying the
problems the white rabbit has so the
audience have a clear idea of what
her character struggles with and they
can see visually the struggle in him,
this would be effective as it gives the
audience a clear representation of
who Hannae plays and what her
character struggles with without an
explanation. Hannae also has shown
a good use of space which is shown in
her solo as she has effectively used all
the floor when choreographing, this
links to her character as he is erratic
and has sudden movements and is
constantly late, so he is often running
all over the place. Another area of
improvement for Hannae would be
timing and pace/musicality as
sometimes she can become carried
away in the choreography and
increase her pace in the
hip-hop/house sections which needs
Interpretive Skills:
Hannae has a good idea of
choreographer intentions and can
portray that through her dancing she
understands what the choreographer
is wanting to portray, she
understands their aims and intentions
through the piece and therefore can
portray this through her dancing
clearly. One area of improvement is
Hannae could improve her analysis of
physical skills required. For example,
Hannae’s character is a rabbit who
can jump and do some tricks which
Hannae isn't able to do, so she
could've improved her acro and
strength and worked towards trying
some easier and basic tricks that
would suit her role like bunny hops
etc. To make her character more like
how the character is in the original
performance but just adapted to
Hannae’s ability.

to be focusedmore on being relaxed
and grooving and hitting the beats
whilst doing quicker choreography
which is what hip-hop styles are
about.
Personal Management:
Hannae is very good at turning up with the correct clothes to dance in, which
shows she is prepared and organised and committed to dancing and getting
going which is a good quality to have as a dancer. Hannae does wear some
jewellery in some dance lessons which could become a health and safety
struggle for her or others around her when dancing which could become a
problem as we would like to prevent any possible injuries as much as possible.
Hannae is also good at ensuring she is warming up and cooling down before
and after dancing which is good as it shows you are quite professional and
taking care of your body when putting it through strenuous exercise.
Evaluation:
In conclusion, Libby has given me feedback that is helpful in improving myself
as a performer but also given me many positive points I can continue to build.
As suggested, I'm going to further work on my characterisation, by doing this
I'm going to show a clear representation of the mental health struggles and
symptoms the White Rabbit experiences. The ways in which I'm going to
improve this skill is to focus on researching and rewatching clips of my
character, this will mean I have a better understanding of the sequences and
movements the character tends to repeat. I am also going to ensure I take
rehearsal clips of my developmental process so I can see the improvement
from start to finish. Libby also pointed out my timing and pace, this is
something I also noticed from watching back previous videos, so I have
therefore made this a long-term target to achieve. I will use targeted
exercises such as practicing counting aloud whilst dancing, using breath cues
during specific movements, and repeatedly practicing phrases with and
without music. Development of basic acro skills was another area of
improvement that was suggested in my feedback. In response to this I am
going to begin with building a basic strong foundation in my strength and
flexibility, before practicing beginner friendly skills such as forward rolls,
cartwheels, and handstand. This will develop my performing skills and largely
aid in the performance of MHTP, as the White Rabbit uses many acrobatic and
