1. Pharmacists completing the Pediatric Pharmacy Residency Program UNIV. MARYLAND will be able to
provide proficient, confident, and compassionate direct patient care in multiple pediatric patient
environments.
Practitioners will be accountable for promoting safe and effective drug usage and achieving optimal drug
therapy outcomes as vital members of the health care team. Also, because the University of Maryland
School of Pharmacy jointly manages this program with the University of Maryland Hospital for Children
(UMHC), the pharmacist will be able to exercise skill in educating other health care professionals, patients,
and the community on drug therapy-related topics, and will possess skill in conducting pharmacy practice-
related research.
Purpose:
This ASHP-accredited residency program is designed to develop a pharmacist’s comprehensive pediatric
knowledge and problem solving skills in an academic, technologically-advanced hospital system and
supportive environment. Our residents will be able to provide pharmaceutical care for pediatric patients
across the spectrum, including ambulatory care, general practice, and intensive care settings. Residents will
be best prepared for a position in pediatric clinical practice or as a non-tenure track pediatric clinical faculty
member.

• Practice Management Experience (longitudinal)
• Staffing Requirement (two weekend shifts, every third weekend)
• Clinical Consults

Each resident will have the opportunity to customize his or her residency experience with the program
coordinators.
