Regular dental care for children assists in developing healthy habits like brushing and flossing. It significantly reduces issues like cavities and tooth decay by preventing germs from entering the body through the oral track. Following a healthy dental regime also makes teeth stronger and more resistant to problems, while ensuring overall good oral and total body health.
Regular dental visits every six months are important for oral and overall health. Visiting the dentist helps prevent cavities and gum disease, detect problems early, create treatment plans, and improve oral health. Basic dental care through brushing, flossing and regular checkups can prevent costly procedures down the line by addressing issues before they become serious. It is also recommended that children see the dentist as soon as their first tooth appears to promote proper chewing, nutrition, speech development and a healthy smile.

Benefits of Early Orthodontic TreatmentBlaine Cusack
Early orthodontic treatment provides several benefits: it encourages healthy dental arch development which prevents issues like crowding later; it protects teeth and gums by aligning protruding teeth to avoid damage; and it helps chewing and digestion by optimizing teeth alignment to easily break down food for nutrition.
This document discusses child dental nutrition and the importance of proper care from a young age. It notes that cleaning a baby's gums and flossing between teeth helps prevent cavities. Baby bottle tooth decay occurs when children are put to bed with bottles containing sugary liquids like milk or juice, which sit in the mouth all night. This can lead to issues like crooked permanent teeth and cavities. The document also emphasizes that juice should be diluted and pop intake limited, as juice contains much more sugar than fruit. It is important for children to see the dentist regularly for exams.
We’ve outlined some pre-planning tips you as the parent can do to help both you and your child have a great experience at our office.
At Rockford IL area pediatric dental we recognize that many children have had or still have ‘dental anxieties’ and that sometimes those anxieties may be inadvertently or subconsciously conveyed to your child.
We are committed to providing safe dental care for all children regardless of their developmental or other special health care needs.
Early Orthodontic Treatment Benefits Your Childwilliamflender
Early orthodontic treatment benefits a child's developing smile in several ways. Misalignment of teeth can lead to poor facial development and health issues like sleep problems. Orthodontic treatment can address misaligned teeth, improper jaw formation, and other dental issues. This helps guide proper tooth eruption and jaw growth. It may also help with problems like teeth grinding and bedwetting. Seeing an orthodontist by age seven allows them to monitor a child's development and plan any needed treatment. Orthodontic treatment is generally done in two phases, with phase one from ages 8-9 focusing on habits and alignment, and phase two using braces from ages 11-15 to position teeth.
- Oral health has a major physical and psychological impact on children and can influence their growth, enjoyment of life, appearance, speech, eating, and socialization.
- Dental health problems affect children's performance in school, lower their self-esteem, and slow their personal development. Not preventing dental diseases has a large effect on school attendance.
- Children's oral health and appearance can influence their social interactions and relationships, as severe tooth decay or gum disease can make it difficult for children to talk and make friends.

The journey to having healthy teeth for life begins even before birth. What can you do, both during and after pregnancy, to help your child get off to a great start? This session will cover steps to take during pregnancy to keep gums and teeth healthy, how a mother’s oral health can affect her baby, caring for infant and toddler teeth (and making it fun), nutrition for healthy teeth, and cavity prevention. Dr. Femina Ali of Wellesley Dental Group will also answer some of the most common questions on bottle use, teething, dental injuries, and pacifier use.
"Early Oral Health" and what parents need to know discusses some of the ways to help your children's oral health, even before they are born. Presented for the first time at Isis Maternity in Needham, MA by Dr. Femina Ali.
Baby teeth begin to appear around 6 months and help children eat, speak, and allow adult teeth to grow properly. Even though baby teeth will fall out, they are important to care for by brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and avoiding putting babies to bed with bottles to prevent tooth decay. Baby teeth guide the position of adult teeth and protect developing adult teeth; if cavities are left untreated in baby teeth, infections can spread and potentially cause harm. There are typically 20 baby teeth that follow an eruption pattern and fall out as adult teeth grow in from ages 6 to 14.

Over a quarter of five-year-olds in the UK suffer from tooth decay – but fewer than ten percent of those children have been treated. It is important for your children to get into good habits early when it comes to their oral health. Dental problems can seriously affect them for the rest of their life, leading to pain, discomfort, and years of expensive medical procedures. With dental care free on the NHS until the age of 18, there really is no reason for a child’s teeth to be neglected.
Like so many aspects of a child’s development, the early stages are vital. It is better to prevent tooth decay than to cure it, and the sooner you set things in place, the quicker everything will become part of their daily routine.
So, get your child brushing! They’ll definitely thank you later when they have all their teeth in later life.
Start early with good oral brushing habits.

When to Expect the Arrival of Your Child's Permanent TeethWarren Brill
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Warren Brill, DMD, has practiced pediatric dentistry throughout the Baltimore, Maryland, area for nearly five decades. Along with his expert staff of dental assistants and coordinators, Dr. Warren Brill provides children and families with a range of dental services in a friendly environment, while also educating children on important matters of oral health and how to take care of their teeth.
Children typically begin losing their baby around the age of six, though some may not begin to experience the loss of baby teeth for another year. That said, baby teeth usually will not fall out until they are forced out by the underlying permanent teeth. If baby teeth become loose and fall out for another reason, an incorrect permanent tooth may drift into its place, which can cause a number of oral health problems.
The lower and upper central incisors are often the first teeth to become loose, followed by latter incisors, first molars, canines, and finally the second molars. After a tooth becomes loose, it can take anywhere from a few days to several months to fall out. Permanent teeth normally begin to surface soon after, though it can take another few months for a new tooth to fully emerge and settle.
As baby teeth begin to loosen and fall out, it is of paramount importance for families to reinforce proper oral health habits, ranging from regular, thorough brushing and flossing practices to the maintenance of a healthy diet, particularly in regards to sugar content. Families should also be making regular visits to a dentist’s office to ensure optimal oral health.
February is national children's dental health month. Here is a presentation explaining dental health topics aimed toward kids. At Lincoln Family Dentistry, we have dental professionals visit schools in the Lincoln, NE area; to explain proper dental hygiene and how to keep they're teeth shining white for the years to come.
This document provides tips for encouraging children to brush their teeth. It recommends starting tooth brushing from the time the first teeth emerge using a child-sized toothbrush and water or coconut oil. Parents should make brushing a daily routine and use fun toothbrushes decorated with favorite characters. Brushing should last two minutes while parents discuss proper technique.
Janet Krahenbuhl teaches oral hygiene to elementary school children during Children's Dental Health Month every February. She works with teachers and dental staff to educate students on proper brushing and flossing techniques. Establishing a routine for brushing twice daily using a soft toothbrush is important for removing plaque. Flossing can be challenging for young children, but parents can help by having the child lay with their head in their lap for easier access. Good oral hygiene habits are most effectively developed at a young age through dental education and parental follow up.
MB Dental Home provides international standard dental care to its patients. Our concern is that every patient is treated carefully with special attention and painless dentistry.

The American Dental Association Prepares for 2013 Annual SessionDr Maryam Pearose
The American Dental Association (ADA) announced that its 2013 Annual Session will be held from October 31st to November 3rd in New Orleans. As a leading event for dentists, the session will feature continuing education courses, a new dentist reception, and a general open session opened by former President Bill Clinton. Established in 1859, the ADA is the largest dental society in the world, comprising over 157,000 members dedicated to promoting the dental profession and ensuring access to quality dental care.
Prenatal and infant oral health is important. Gum disease in pregnant women can lead to premature and low-birthweight babies due to bacteria spreading to the fetus. Babies can get cavity-causing bacteria from their parents through various behaviors. Parents should see the dentist before and during pregnancy to reduce risks. Cavities are the most common childhood disease. Baby teeth should be cared for as they guide permanent teeth and affect development. The first dental visit should be when the first tooth erupts.
This document outlines an infant oral health program to prevent early childhood caries. It recommends seeing infants early to conduct a caries risk assessment and follow guidelines for first dental visits. During exams, dentists should look for plaque, inflammation, stain and decay, and provide prophylaxis with fluoride or ART as needed. It identifies risk factors for caries and recommends benign floral enhancement involving treating the mother's oral health issues preconception, modifying diets, using xylitol gum and fluoride for mothers and infants, and recalls based on caries risk.
Preventive Dentistry and Early Caries Detectionghidalawand
This document discusses various methods for preventing dental caries and detecting early caries, including:
1. Methods to reduce demineralizing factors like limiting cariogenic foods and improving oral hygiene through toothbrushing and flossing.
2. Methods to increase protective factors like using fluorides, antimicrobial agents, pit and fissure sealants, and genetically modified foods.
3. Techniques for early caries detection including visual, tactile, radiographic, laser fluorescence, and electrical methods to identify lesions before cavitation occurs. Preventive strategies and early detection are important for stopping the progression of dental caries.
This document provides information on infant oral health care. It defines an infant as a child under 12-24 months of age. Maintaining good oral health is important during this period as the foundation for permanent teeth and overall oral health is laid down. Breastfeeding is advantageous for infant oral health as breastmilk does not cause significant acid production, supports moderate bacterial growth and has protective factors. However, prolonged or at-will breastfeeding can increase risk of nursing caries. Bottle feeding increases risk of rapid weight gain compared to breastfeeding due to differences in muscle use and milk flow. Dentists can educate parents on proper feeding practices, fluoride use, and early dental visits to promote infant oral health.
This document summarizes a continued care model for pediatric preventive dentistry. It discusses key factors in caries prevention like oral hygiene, diet, fluoride therapy, and fissure sealants. It outlines a model where children are classified based on their risk level and receive health promotion materials every 6 weeks. The goal is to reward cavity-free children with a "No Cavity Club" membership and cash value they can use at stores. The model aims to increase awareness, motivate healthy behaviors, and invest in children's oral health long-term.
This document discusses analgesics used in dentistry, focusing on NSAIDs. It provides background on pain and analgesia, then classifies analgesics. NSAIDs are discussed in depth, including their history, classification, mechanisms of action through prostaglandin synthesis inhibition, adverse effects, and individual drugs. The roles of COX-1 and COX-2 are explained. Salicylates like aspirin are highlighted as a commonly used NSAID, covering its pharmacology, absorption, effects, intoxication, and management. The document is an educational resource on analgesics for dental practitioners.
A presentation on Analgesics which includes basic terminologies, mechanisms and pathway for pain, pharmacology of pain receptors and synthesis of related medicinal compounds.
The document summarizes non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It discusses their mechanism of action by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes and reducing prostaglandin formation, leading to analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects. NSAIDs are classified based on selectivity for COX-1 and COX-2. Common NSAIDs and their uses for pain relief are described. Adverse effects include gastric irritation and bleeding. Dental considerations advise avoiding NSAIDs if allergic and not using aspirin before and after surgery due to bleeding risk.
Commonly used drugs in children By Dr Sachin RathodDr Sachin Rathod
This document discusses analgesics and commonly used antibiotics in pediatric dentistry. It begins by outlining concepts about pain in children, noting they have higher pain tolerance but are more sensitive to side effects. Analgesics are classified as centrally or peripherally acting. Centrally acting analgesics like alfentanil, remifentanil and tramadol are more effective for acute pain but have greater risk of adverse effects. Peripherally acting analgesics have lower risk but are less effective for severe pain. Combination therapies are also discussed. The document then reviews dosing guidelines and commonly used antibiotics like amoxicillin, ampicillin, cephalexin and erythromycin. It concludes by discussing recent developments
1.Antibiotics and analgesics in pediatric dentistryAminah M
This document discusses the use of antibiotics in dentistry. It begins with a quick review of pediatric physiology and important considerations for dosing antibiotics in children. It then covers the classification, mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetics, and uses of various classes of antibiotics commonly used in dentistry, including beta-lactam antibiotics like penicillins and cephalosporins. The document concludes with sections on antibiotic resistance, newer antimicrobials, guidelines for antibiotic usage and prophylaxis, managing drug allergies and toxicity.
Future pain management in pediatric dentistryManisha Meda
This document discusses future pain management in pediatric dentistry. It summarizes various pain assessment tools used for different age groups, including the Neonatal Infant Pain Scale and Wong-Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale. Methods for reducing pain during local anesthesia administration are outlined, such as precooling injection sites, topical anesthetics, and vibration devices. New technologies for local anesthesia delivery aim to further decrease pain in children undergoing dental procedures. The conclusion states that multiple techniques and devices can effectively reduce pain experienced by children during dental treatment.
This document discusses various techniques for achieving local anesthesia in dental procedures. It describes common methods such as local infiltration, field block, nerve block, intraligamentary injection, intraseptal injection, intrapulpal injection, intraosseous injection, jet injection, computer-controlled local anesthetic delivery systems, and electronic dental anesthesia. It also discusses topical anesthesia and provides details on the principles, indications, contraindications, advantages and disadvantages of each technique. The goal is to outline options for effectively achieving anesthesia for different dental treatments and patient situations.
This document provides information on various topics related to local anesthesia. It begins with definitions of pain and local anesthesia. It then discusses the constituents of local anesthetic solutions, including local anesthetic agents, vasoconstrictors, and other components. Various techniques for local anesthesia are covered, including local infiltration, field block, nerve block, and others. Specific injection techniques for the maxilla and mandible are explained.
Analgesics are medications used to relieve pain without reducing consciousness. Opioid analgesics are very potent prescription medicines chemically related to morphine that are prescribed for moderate to severe pain. Morphine is the most important alkaloid of opium and produces analgesia through actions in the brain and spinal cord. It is readily absorbed from the GI tract, subcutaneous tissue, and muscle and is administered intravenously, epidurally, and intrathecally to relieve moderate to severe pain. Adverse reactions include confusion, anxiety, nausea, vomiting, constipation, urinary retention and respiratory depression.
The document provides an overview of pain and analgesics used in periodontics. It discusses:

Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune DiseaseHealth Advances
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.
