Upcoming in the second year, they will improve two parks based on input, install signs to connect neighborhoods to transit and destinations, add bike lanes, build a sidewalk, and expand fitness classes and events in parks. The overall goal is to create a healthier, more walkable and bikeable community.

Access Sport provides three core programmes to unlock the power of community sports clubs: Ignite disability inclusion, the BMX Legacy Programme, and Better Futures social inclusion. The BMX Legacy Programme builds new BMX tracks and clubs to encourage youth cycling participation. It has expanded to 14 London boroughs, engaged over 14,000 participants including 30% females and 58% from black and minority ethnic groups. The programme addresses declining youth cycling rates and aims to make cycling accessible for disadvantaged and underrepresented groups. It takes a holistic, place-based approach through community outreach, facilities, competitions and skills development. Partnerships are key to its success, especially at the local level. The City of Lights program provides bicycle lights and safety information to Latino immigrant cyclists in Los Angeles. It is run by the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition at the CARECEN day laborer center in Pico-Union. The program aims to connect this underrepresented group of cyclists to advocacy resources and make their neighborhoods more bike-friendly through workshops, lights distribution, and future research on transportation equity issues facing Latino cyclists.

This Presentation Documents the Rites of Passage Graduation Celebration for the Seniors of the Turning Point of Lansing, Michigan Non-Profit Community Organization. The Turning Point is comprised of a group of dedicated men in the Lansing Minority community who donate many hours of their time to mentor, direct, and counsel young black males residing in the Greater Lansing, Michigan area.
Many of the young men are from single family homes. Some had encountered adjustment problems in the public school systems and need someone in their corner to help them figure out how to navigate the difficult transition from Boys to Men for black adolescent youth.
This presentation shows some of the phases of the Rites of Passage ceremony, and also the reception immediately after the graduation ceremony. The ceremony was held at Lansing Community College at Dart auditorium on May 13, 2015.
A separate photo album presentation is also uploaded in which approximately 90 photographs taken at the even are shared.
National Service Strengthens Cities
National service programs in Lake Park, Minnesota engage over 80 volunteers and community organizations to tackle challenges like senior health, disaster preparedness, and education. Dorothy Paulson and Carroll Clark are examples of senior volunteers who help keep other seniors physically fit and provide hospice care. As Mayor, Aaron Lee Wittnebel is grateful for these national service volunteers who make the city stronger, safer, and healthier through their dedication and sacrifice. He recognizes their impact and joins other mayors in thanking national service members who improve lives and communities.

- 2. Central Yavapai County Leadership Excellence award We are proud recognize this year’s nominees: Charlie Arnold (Prescott City Council), Joel Barnes (Prescott College), Sue Knaup (local bicycle advocate) and Jean Wilcox (Prescott City Council). They have gone above and beyond in their efforts to add to or improve the quality of life in our community.
- 3. Prescott Alternative Transportation’s Mission : “Working towards a bicycle and pedestrian-friendly central Yavapai community.”
- 4. Prescott Alternative Transportation's Vision: A transportation and trails system that enriches our central Yavapai community by providing mobility for all, regardless of car ownership, age or ability. A seamless bicycle, pedestrian and public transit network invites our citizens to leave their cars at home, thereby saving money, encouraging healthy activity, and promoting energy independence.
- 5. Why are walkable/bikable communities important?
- 6. Walkable/bikeable communities channel growth in new areas to protect habitat, agricultural land and open space. They reduce dependency on the automobile and reduce infrastructure investment costs.
- 7. Walkable/bikeable communities are desirable places to live, work, learn, worship and play. They are also integral to achieving the goals of sustainable growth as they enhance mobility, reduce negative environmental consequences, strengthen economies and support stronger communities through improved social interaction.
- 8. Communities can be built so that walking/biking to destinations is a viable option; improving access to services for the residents who are too old, too young or too poor to drive.
- 9. Prescott Alternative Transportation advocates and offers guidance during the transportation planning process to help lead Prescott in a positive direction for all of our citizens. We are a strong voice for nondrivers during community planning.
- 10. Prescott Alternative Transportation coordinates and administers our area’s Safe Routes to School program.
- 11. Prescott Alternative Transportation originated and actively coordinates the only Walking School Bus program in our area.
- 12. Prescott Alternative Transportation launched and continues to coordinate our area’s Bike Month.
- 13. Prescott Alternative Transportation holds the Skull Valley Loop Challenge annually.
