Sorry, now audio for these yet, but the first half is rather similar to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgU5Gx5bh3o and I'll try to put up a commentary for the feedback section soon.

Putting users first: The redesign of uOttawa.caNichole McGill
The new uOttawa.ca website went live in November of 2013 to the musical tweets and likes of students and for those who are passionate about creating a user-design experience. Not only was a new mobile responsive Drupal Web content management system put in place to replace the numerous in play, the entire content and purpose of the site was rethought according to a thorough analysis that focused on the needs of users first. Nichole McGill, Web Communications Director for the University of Ottawa, reveals what she learned in her multi-year odyssey to transform uOttawa.ca to make it mobile, ensure that all requirements met the unique bilingual needs of the largest English-French university in the world, all the while pushing the bar for university sites.
For the Love of Volunteers! How Do You Choose the Right Technology to Manage ...Jazkarta, Inc.
In this 2017 Non-profit Technology Conference session, Loren Drummond (Washington Trails Association), Karen Uffelman (Percolator Consulting) and Sally Kleinfeldt (Jazkarta) describe volunteer management systems - what makes a good one, how to evaluate your needs, and whether you should buy an off the shelf solution or build something custom. As a case study, they dive into the custom VMS that WTA built to manage their trail maintenance work parties, covering the project from inception through discovery and implementation. In 2016, the year after launch, WTA's VMS smoothly managed 150,000 trail maintenance volunteer hours done by 4,700 volunteers on 240 trails across the state of Washington - an astonishing $3.9 million dollars worth of labor donated to public lands.

It feels like we have building web sites and applications for centuries, doesn’t it? However, we know that this is so untrue, because the web is only 25 years old since Sir Tim Berner’s Lee great proposal at CERN. The impetus of online design and development has changed, we now talk about the Digital Worker, the Digital environment and we about building web applications and ecommerce applications that are user friendly and customer centric. So what has this all to with the humble Java application developer? The answer is everything. We must be explicit in the software that we write, lean and agile in the way we write, and whilst making sure the take full advantage of the underlying Java platform. In fact, because we have this magnificent Java Virtual Machine and open standards like Java EE, we can continue build quality, robust and sustainable software for all our stakeholders and business users.

Skills Development Through Authentic AssessmentAlan Cann
"Authentic assessment" is relevant to real world outcomes and engaging for students. Much of the treadmill activity of conventional assessment (essays and exams) has little to do with what goes on in the workplace. Faced with the task of developing a "research skills" module for 300 biological sciences students, I attempted to apply the principles of authentic assessment. The practical problems in achieving this with a large number of students involve the staffing demands of this approach, and there are problems with applying performance-based outcomes to large groups of students. Team-based learning enhances student engagement and represents a shift from a teacher-based strategy to a student-centred approach.

Presentation for solo10: http://www.scienceonlinelondon.org/programme.php
Science education remains largely stuck in a didactic mode, where information is transmitted from qualified professionals to aspiring students. Ironically, because social tool adoption by practicing scientists has been slow, many people involved in delivering science education are visitors rather than residents in social spaces, and their expertise with these tools is outstripped by the students they teach. This session will start with a whistle-stop tour of the pedagogies of online education. Participants will then discuss the barriers to tool adoption, examples of best practice, and suggestions for institutional and individual advances.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
