Pecha Kucha Night started in Tokyo in 2003 as a place for young designers to showcase their work. It involves presentations of 20 images shown for 20 seconds each, for a total time of 6 minutes and 40 seconds. It has since expanded to over 290 cities globally. Presenters span a wide range, from professionals to amateurs, students to acclaimed designers. The simple format levels the playing field and makes it about how the presenter uses the limited time. There is no formal Q&A, instead allowing discussions throughout the event. Volunteers are sought to help organize the first Pecha Kucha Night in Chennai through tasks like poster design, location setup, and music.
