OBJECTIVES
1. Define the concept of Peace Education
2. Differentiate the Structural violence and Physical violence.
3. Identify the different strategies
Definitions of terms:
Direct violence – violence that is expressed in a direct manner through physical
confrontations, e.g. physical assault, coercion, or destruction (Harris
& Morrison, 2003).
Conflict – is a class between ideas, principles and people.
Peace - absence of death and destruction as a result of war.
Hirao, 1987; Reardon, 2000
Peace education – the study of both the causes and
consequences of war and peace; transmission of knowledge
about and skills to achieve and maintain peace, and the
obstacles that stands in the way.
Harris & Morrison, 2003
Peace Education is a process inclusive of skills, attitudes
and knowledge to create a safe world, to build a sustainable
environment and to bring social change.
Attributes of a Peace Educator
• Peace educator must serve as models for the qualities and skills
they are helping young people to develop in the peaceable
classroom and school.

• Develop the capacity to care by knowing the learners in their charge as
individuals.
• Motivated by service and is actively involved in the community.
• Gender sensitive
Implication
Peace Education
To maintain the peace in our self and society.
It gives alternatives to solve any violence that we encountered through educate
individuals for a peaceful existence on the basis of respect for others, equality
and non violence.
Help students acquire skills.
Peace is a holistic concept because in peace we change our lives without any
conflict, love should be first in order to possessed in peace.
We all know that conflict is a part of our life. To resolve it, we should recognizing
the problem and recognizing one’s own need and interest of the opposing sides.
