of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) was established in 2011 for the purpose of
supporting individuals, organizations, and professional groups with

9. English for academics
The Professional Development Institute (PDI),
in association with Dar Al-Khibra Organization
(DKO), is launching an 80-hour intensive English
language training during summer time for
academics and professionals from central and
southern Iraq at the modern AUIS campus.
Participants can enjoy four weeks of top
quality English language classes taught by
native English-speaking instructors at the AUIS
campus, plus they can enjoy the beautiful nature
of Sulaimani.
Tuition fee for this course includes 80 hours of
training, breakfast and lunch at AUIS cafeteria,
and accommodation.
English Summer Camp
This 3-week course gives students ages 13-17 a
chance to improve their English and have fun.
Mornings focus on English language skills, with
particular emphasis on speaking. Afternoons are
full of fun activities, including art, drama, sports,
computers, and movies. All of these activities
give students a chance to put their English into
practice, as well as learn new skills and build
teamwork.

Targeted at beginners for the purpose of introducing students to basic
conversational Arabic and enabling them to begin communicating in
Arabic. The intention of the course is to give beginners the confidence to
successfully interact in Arabic in everyday situations, and also introduce

Kurdish (Sorani) Level 1
Targeted at absolute beginners, the objective of this course is to
introduce students to conversational Kurdish and enable them to begin
communicating in Sorani. The intention of the course is to give absolute
beginners the confidence to successfully interact with the Kurdish
community in everyday situations.
Prerequisite to enter Kurdish Level 1: None
Kurdish (Sorani) Level 2
Targeted at beginners with Level 1 exposure to the Kurdish language and
those who want to go beyond conversational Kurdish. The objective
of level 2 is to build on the conversation skills gained in Level 1 and also
introduce learners to basic reading and writing in Sorani Kurdish.
Prerequisite to enter Kurdish Level 2: Completion of Kurdish Level 1 or
previous exposure to Sorani Kurdish at a basic level
Kurdish (Sorani) Level 3
Targeted at intermediate learners who have taken Kurdish Level 1 and 2.
The objective of this course is to build on the conversation skills gained
in previous courses with an increased emphasis on reading, writing,
and comprehension. Level 3 is aimed at serious learners of the Kurdish
language. The course will give students the tools to continue to study and
use the language independently.
Prerequisite to enter Level 3: Completion of Kurdish Level 2 or previous
exposure to Sorani Kurdish at an intermediate level

This 80-hour intensive English course is aimed at students seeking
admission to the Academic Preparatory Program (APP) at AUIS. The
majority of the course focuses on improving students’ reading and
listening comprehension at the fundamental English level, with
additional work on basic vocabulary skills.
Students will also become familiar with the three sections of the
TOEFL ITP and learn basic strategies to answer questions on each
section of the test, with the goal of obtaining a higher score on the
TOEFL ITP.
