Why teach PDHPE in
  primary schools?
Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
(PDHPE) may just be one of six key learning areas (KLA)
in the NSW primary curriculum but it is just as important
 as any other KLA due to its unique contribution to the
                total school curriculum.
Promotes physical activity

Children need to be encouraged to participate in physical
activity on a regular basis as this can:

 Improve cardiovascular efficiency;
 Reduce risk of coronary heart disease;
 Control obesity;
 Enhance bone development;
 Improve psychological health;
 Assist in acquisition of movement skills.
Develop and maintain positive
     social relationships
 Engaging in physical activity through
  participation in team sports allows students to
  develop positive social relationships.
 Within teams students are able to develop
  skills in negotiation, conflict resolution,
  tolerance, effective communication and
  working cooperatively which is then applied in
  social relationships.
Promotes making healthy
       lifestyle choices

   By teaching and providing guidance to
 students in relation to appropriate health
attitudes and behaviours, students are then
    able to make healthy lifestyle choices
   resulting in an improved quality of life.
Promotes living and learning
       in a safe secure environment

Students need
to be taught to
   recognise                  …and taught to
   situations                 use strategies
  where their                 to protect
personal safety               themselves.
   may be at
      risk…

 One final note:

 MAKE SURE PDHPE is FUN!!!!!
