The document discusses the increasing connectivity of people and devices through networks and the Internet of Things. It argues that we have transitioned from the Information Age to the Systems Age, where decision-making systems are needed to manage and make sense of the vast amounts of data. The proliferation of connected devices will create enormous networks that can provide transparency and optimize operations in areas like logistics and asset management. However, these complex networks also introduce risks if not properly managed. GE is working on network-based technologies and cognitive systems to help create intelligent networks and distributed decision-making.

The document discusses how personalization and dynamic content are becoming increasingly important on websites. It notes that 52% of marketers see content personalization as critical and 75% of consumers like it when brands personalize their content. However, personalization can create issues for search engine optimization as dynamic URLs and content are more difficult for search engines to index than static pages. The document provides tips for SEOs to help address these personalization and SEO challenges, such as using static URLs when possible and submitting accurate sitemaps.
Lightning Talk #9: How UX and Data Storytelling Can Shape Policy by Mika Aldabaux singapore
How can we take UX and Data Storytelling out of the tech context and use them to change the way government behaves?
Showcasing the truth is the highest goal of data storytelling. Because the design of a chart can affect the interpretation of data in a major way, one must wield visual tools with care and deliberation. Using quantitative facts to evoke an emotional response is best achieved with the combination of UX and data storytelling.
This document summarizes a study of CEO succession events among the largest 100 U.S. corporations between 2005-2015. The study analyzed executives who were passed over for the CEO role ("succession losers") and their subsequent careers. It found that 74% of passed over executives left their companies, with 30% eventually becoming CEOs elsewhere. However, companies led by succession losers saw average stock price declines of 13% over 3 years, compared to gains for companies whose CEO selections remained unchanged. The findings suggest that boards generally identify the most qualified CEO candidates, though differences between internal and external hires complicate comparisons.

This article discusses predictions for the future of technology and cyber risk. It suggests that technological growth and human evolution will continue exponentially, with human systems interacting more closely with technology through devices like nanobots interfacing with the brain. Major predictions for 2030-2050 include widespread driverless transportation, smart grids addressing climate change, and computers ordering household items based on behaviors. The article also notes challenges around regulating the internet to balance innovation, privacy, and human rights.
Many schools have shown in the past years to have a clear understanding of what digital sustainability and data sovereignity really mean.
The use of Free Software for education of free software web tools and data in data centers located on our territory, South Tyrol, are the base ingredients for a real cloud for learners.
Nextcloud, LibreOffice, Moodle, ILIAS, Chamilo, Big Blue Button are just a few of the main ingredients used.
We are not re-inventing the wheel.
We are just doing and trying to spread an idea of cloud for schools that other countries and cities are also doing:
E.g. the city of Barcelona with its Plan for the Democratic Digitalisation of Education where Xnet and a group of families presented the first version of the DD digital educational infrastructure, a pioneering comprehensive workspace that aggregates free and auditable software tools in a single suite offering data sovereignty and protecting the digital rights of students and teachers.
This important project is one example of great effort which deserves to be spread all over Europe, reused and supported by public administrations.
This document summarizes a presentation given at the NETTIES 2015 conference on smart cities and open data. The presentation discusses how Amsterdam in the 16th century could be considered one of the first smart cities due to its use of open data on trade and cargo. This data-driven economy allowed for new industries like stock exchanges. The presentation also discusses how today's understanding of smart cities focuses on integration, overcoming information silos, and finding optimal transportation routes through semantic representation of data. Examples of European smart city projects are provided.

The document discusses sustainability of cultural institutions in a post-digital world. It notes that while some museums are struggling with funding cuts, others are thriving with new development. It argues that sustainability requires resilience and relevance. New technologies now allow for sensing of environmental data and predicting trends from aggregated online data. Cultural institutions must change to remain useful and meaningful to people in a world where digital and physical experiences are intertwined.

Therefore, we are naturally dealing with a wide scope here, both in terms of the

The document summarizes a study on the future of work and technology conducted by The Millennium Project. It outlines three potential global scenarios for work and technology by 2050: 1) "It's Complicated" with mixed outcomes, 2) "Political/Economic Turmoil" resulting in widespread despair, and 3) "If Humans Were Free" leading to a self-actualizing economy. It then lists over 90 actions identified to address issues across different sectors in the various scenarios. The study utilized numerous futures research methods including literature reviews, Delphi studies, and workshops to explore the long-term impacts of emerging technologies on work and develop strategic recommendations.

This document discusses the growth of the Internet of Things and the opportunities and challenges that come with connecting billions of devices. It notes that the Internet began with a single connected coffeepot and introduces the next 100 billion internet users through small, smart connected devices that interface with the physical world. While this represents a revenue opportunity, it also signals a fundamental shift in the scale of the network. It raises questions around how to deploy and maintain these devices as well as who will control the data collected.
Ubiquitous computing (ubicomp) refers to computers that are integrated into everyday objects and activities. The document discusses the history and future of ubicomp, including how RFID technology enables objects and environments to be networked. It also examines issues like new forms of social control through ubiquitous surveillance and life logging. The document recommends using the junaio platform and Metaio Creator software to develop augmented reality experiences based on 3D models and image tracking.

This document provides a summary of a presentation by Raoul Chiesa on cybercrime trends from the past to present. It discusses how hacking has evolved from curiosity-driven activities by bored teens to profit-motivated crimes by adults. Reasons for the rise of cybercrime include the increasing number of internet users and victims, economic incentives, availability of hacking tools, recruitment of inexperienced people, and lack of consequences. The presentation also notes how media portrayal has changed perceptions of who hackers are.

The Internet is under attack . Fundamental aspects of it are under pressure - things like truth, expertise, knowledge, sharing and privacy. Librarians have a key role to play in fighting back. Here's how.
This document discusses the modern crisis of intellectual property in the digital age. It outlines three main transformations that have disturbed the traditional balance of intellectual property: 1) the commercialization and harmonization of intellectual property internationally which has distorted continental protection systems; 2) the broadening of the definition of piracy and expansion of counter-piracy campaigns to target individual users; 3) the gradual appropriation of public domain through broader definitions of originality and protection of technical and database works. It argues these changes have shifted the focus from protecting authors to controlling access and use through digital rights management technologies, challenging the legitimacy of the current intellectual property system.

Christian persecution in Islamic countries has intensified, with alarming incidents of violence, discrimination, and intolerance. This article highlights recent attacks in Nigeria, Pakistan, Egypt, Iran, and Iraq, exposing the multifaceted challenges faced by Christian communities. Despite the severity of these atrocities, the Western world's response remains muted due to political, economic, and social considerations. The urgent need for international intervention is underscored, emphasizing that without substantial support, the future of Christianity in these regions is at grave risk.

Abstract
Highlights will be brought up on issues such as neutrality, safety and accountability
of Internet, with case studies on the functioning of DNS directory, Visa country
codes directory, the SWIFT system, the recognition of Electronic Certification
Authorities. The current digital world is in search of a profound transformation, on
the way to evolve from a heterogeneous communications network towards the
Web of Things. Directories are at the heart of internet governance. Future
directories will arise as m to n matrix.
How will the Internet of the Future look like? The answer can be drawn up,
although not fully revealed, through a few case studies: the Directories of the
future, the Amortization of the financial value of virtual objects, Use value versus
Patrimonial value, Intellectual property of Objects, Evolution of ICANN, Use of
electronic passports and signatures in an anonymous digital world.
A solution is presented as a possible fp7 project : Virtual Pantheon

Triple War
Bad news : we are in the middle of a triple war
- Geographical war
- Technological war : digital age against industrial age
- industrial, petrol based civilization is dying
- digital, energy-based civilization is arising
- War against ourselves
- for the first time in history, actual generation is in
danger of living shorter and age in worse conditions than our
ancestors
- social security and health systems will collapse
even in the most advanced economies

Positionning
The other continents are moving, trying to reposition themselves
(economist picture), in order to achieve Leadership for the next
50 years.
Europe has to choose between ACTING and REPOSITIONING
NOW and win peacefully, imposing the civilization model for the
next age or STAY PASSIVE, acting in the wrong direction and
loose, having to follow other models.

Cycles and Spirals
Good news:
We, Europeans, are celebrating today 2000 years from
Pax Romana
We , Europeans, have created the tools to achieve peaceful
leadership and prosperity by education and technological
advantage
- private actions
- educate young generation “Sportacus Lazy Town style"
- public research is a major tool and, of course, FP7
“Network of the Future" is the most visionary, geekest and
coolest one :)
- peaceful and fruitful collaboration with other continents
: Eurolatis (latin america), India, China, Africa at R&D and
reconstruction level

THE question for EU
Are we going to succeed in the long term ?
EE biggest sucess: mobile telecom
EU most recent public R&D success : Nobel prize as output of an
FP6 project
EU as desperate follower : GALILEO
Complete EU failures : Search engine ... and many others ,
among them EU-funded projects
9. 8
SalamandreStratégiesforEuropeanCommission-october2010
Yes we do
Can we, Europeans, afford a future failure ?
- Network of the future is a major R7d and infrastructure
challenge, it's the equivalent of the paved roads built during the
roman empire
Do we Europeans want to achieve peaceful leadership in
the digital era ?
Yes, we want, we can, we do !

Peaceful leadership
Strategies
Oriental point of view (indirect way):
Sun Tzu - do not move when the circumstances are not favorable
no excuse if you don't move when they are favorable
Occidental point of view (direct way)
straight batttle. cut the gordian knot with one single, direct, fast
and precise hit
Salamandre applies both strategies , in a doctrine for
new Europe’s peaceful leadership : Pax Digitalia

Pax Digitalis
General - Socio economics
Problems of the modern capitalism
- expansion (problems at the borders )
- ethics
- measure
- Amortisation (was introduced in the industrial era)
Socio-economics of the internet and immaterial goods
- too many objects , too much information , going too fast
- human body and mind not ready
- actual generation first in the history of mankind to live shorter than
ancestors
- limits of the actual system
- implosion of "good“ digital objects ipv4 sacracy , dns war
- explosion of "bad" digital objects : spam , malware , viruses
- we live with the illusion of stocking everything "at no cost "
- war between au authors , distributors , etc
- no more gauss curve, but eiffel tower distribution

ISOC Internet of the future scenarios
ISOC’s internet of the future survey :
http://www.isoc.org/tools/blogs/scenarios
Biggest threat as perceived by voters : Increased government control
Why ?
Because governments can have evil capacities, especially in case of
monopoly
- Capacity to block domain names extensions. A contrario, il peut aussi
empêcher un Etat souverain de définir ses propres restrictions (.corse-
libre, etc…)
- Captation of value
p to p gtld , multicast
Science fiction, you think ? No, reality !

SalamandreStratégiesforEuropeanCommission-october2010
Neutrality=Peace
First digital wars :
- Yugoslavia visa country code erase
- Lybia dns erase
- Verisign dns errors rerouting
Actual Internet governance actors :
- ICANN is governance but also a business
-dns mapping is just another directory
- Isoc approach is different: Consensus management and
research, focused on results: IETF, IAB, org registry – projects
- ITU no comment
Future internet governance actors :
Digital Governance is related to directories
In the future, other directories will emerge in a m to n matrix
- ipv6, objects , intellectual property
Neutrality is a sine qua non condition to succeed peacefully
- money neutrality , net neutrality , directory neutrality
- loosing neutrality implies crisis and wars
- “intelligent” money - financial crisis
- “intelligent” search engine – information war
- “ differentiated internet” – telecom war
