Paul Allen co-founded Microsoft with Bill Gates in 1975. He came up with the original name "Micro-Soft" and helped broker the deal that landed Microsoft the contract to develop the operating system for IBM's first personal computer. Allen invested in many technology companies and has established several philanthropic organizations through his Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, which awards $30 million annually in grants mainly focused on the Pacific Northwest region of the United States.
