Advantages in having a Pathfinder Club
 It makes the church visible to the community –
that the church cares for youths
 Youths find the church interesting and fun to be
in
 Pastors and church leaders are viewed positively
- seen as balanced people who are not too
heavenly minded to be of any earthly use!
 Energies of youth are harnessed and directed
towards worthy causes
 Activities allow for a lot of interaction with
community in bonding and intimacy, preparing
the ground for evangelism
What is a Pathfinder Club?
 It is a worldwide program organized by the SDA
church for the benefit of youths
 It offers a wide range of wholesome learning
experiences for youth (10-15 yrs of age) that test
both their mind and muscle
 It develops boys and girls into the fullness of
manhood & womanhood
 It prepares youth not just for this world but for
eternity to come
Goals of the Pathfinder Club
• Lead youth to Christ and hold them loyal
to Him and the church.
• Demonstrate the attractiveness of
Christian ideals.
• Guide our boys and girls into active
missionary service and community
service.
• Develop good character and citizenship
as well as physical fitness.
• Teach a variety of practical skills and
recreational pursuits.
• Guide them in their physical, mental,
social and spiritual growth. (Luke 2:52)

What is taught in Pathfindering
The main components of the Pathfinder curriculum are the teaching
of Pathfinder Honors (a short course in a particular subject) and the
Pathfinder Classes (a longer and more comprehensive course with
many different aspects and requirements) promoting wholesome
growth
Pathfinder Classes
 There are 6 Pathfinder Classes –
Friend, Companion, Explorer,
Ranger, Voyager and Guide. Each of
these classes also has an advanced
level
 Each of these classes take between
6 months to a year to complete
 These classes have many different
requirements each dealing with a
specific aspect of growth - Spiritual
(e.g. memorizing of Bible texts),
Social and Community (e.g. doing
community projects), Physical (e.g.
hiking), Mental (learning new skills
and hobbies)
Pathfinder Honors
 There are almost 250 honors currently with new ones added once in a
while. Some of these honors have an advanced level.
 Each of these honors represent learning in a new area of interest for
the pathfinders which could be a hobby, a skill or a craft or simply
understanding and knowledge in a subject.
First 16 Honors introduced in 1928 by C Lester
Bond. Can you name them all? JMV

Editor's Notes

  • #43 During His ministry, Jesus place a very high value on Children and the responsibility adults have in protecting children from harm. These words still instruct us today on how serious is our duty to appropriately interact with children and to be prepared in shielding them from harm. SHOW THE VIDEO CLIP – Predator At the Door -- This is a 4 minute dramatization which illustrates how vulnerable Seventh-day Adventist churches and schools can be in providing easy/unsupervised access to Adventist children. Is our congregation Prepared?
