This document summarizes different types of inflammation. It discusses acute and chronic inflammation and describes chronic inflammation as having three main forms: granulomas, mononuclear cell infiltrations that can be diffuse or focal, and fibrosis with new blood vessel formation. It also discusses the components of inflammation including changes to vascular caliber, exudation and increased permeability, and proliferation of connective tissue. Specific types of chronic inflammation like interstitial, granulomatous, and proliferative inflammation are also summarized. Granulomatous inflammation and specific granulomatous diseases like tuberculosis are explained in more detail.
