The past simple in English is equivalent to the imperfect and preterite tenses in Spanish. It is used to describe completed actions in the past without reference to the time. To form the regular past simple, the infinitive form of the verb takes the "-ed" ending, which is the same for all subjects. There are exceptions for verbs ending in "e", consonant-vowel combinations, and verbs ending in a consonant and "y".
