- The study examined malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and hematological parameters in 31 newly diagnosed cervical cancer patients at a hospital in India.
- MDA levels, which indicate oxidative stress, were found to be significantly higher in cervical cancer patients compared to healthy volunteers. MDA levels also differed between cancer grades.
- Hematological analysis found reduced red blood cell count and hemoglobin levels and increased white blood cell count in cervical cancer patients relative to normal levels.
- The results suggest that oxidative stress and hematological abnormalities are present at the initial clinical presentation of cervical cancer patients and that MDA may be a predictive marker for disease progression. Controlling oxidative stress and improving nutrition could help cervical cancer treatment

ABSTRACT- Thrombocytosis has been reported in association with ovarian tumors and is often a poor prognostic
factor. The present study aims to study the incidence of pre-operative thrombocytosis in epithelial ovarian tumors and to
correlate it with anemia, serum CA-125 levels, presence or ascites, FIGO staging and tumor histology. Total 160 cases
of resected specimens of surface epithelial ovarian tumors (SEOT) received in department of Pathology, Kasturba
Medical College Mangalore were studied. The preoperative platelet count, haemoglobin levels and serum CA-125
levels were collected. The presence and degree of ascites was assessed. International Federation of Obstetrics and
Gynaecology (FIGO) staging was done. The incidence of thrombocytosis and its correlation with the presence of
anaemia, elevated CA-125 levels, FIGO stage and presence and degree of ascites among malignant cases were
statistically analysed. The incidence of pre-operative thrombocytosis was noted more in malignant SEOTs 80%
(40/160). The mean pre-operative platelet count in the present study was 321X109 /L. It was more prevalent in serous
epithelial ovarian tumors (83.3%) and these findings were statistically significant (p=0.0001). There was a statistically
significant association of pre-operative thrombocytosis with the presence and degree of ascites and advanced FIGO
staging (p=0.0001). Pre-operative thrombocytosis is a frequent finding in malignant SEOTs and is associated with other
prognostic markers. This implies that thrombocytosis is probably a marker of tumor aggressiveness, and that platelet
may have a role in cancer growth and progression. Thus, presence of pre-operative thrombocytosis has significance as a
poor prognosticator in epithelial ovarian tumors.
Key-words- Thrombocytosis, Surface Epithelial Ovarian Tumors (SEOT), CA 125, FIGO staging
Background: Resectability Criteria for Colorectal Liver Metastases (CRLM) have expanded, and advances in liver surgery have increased the number of patients eligible for resection. Identifying risk factors for early recurrence to help stratify CRLM patients will contribute to targeted management of these patients, including surveillance follow-up.Objectives: To identify risk factors for early recurrence post-resection for CRLM in a contemporary cohort of patients. Early recurrence was defi ned based on unit protocol as evidence of recurrent disease on follow-up imaging within one year of surgery. Methods: From January 2012 to December 2016, 133 patients with CRLM underwent liver resection in our Unit; 115 patients followed up for at least a year were eligible. We analysed pre-operative variables (sex, age, BMI, comorbidities, CEA and Liver function tests (LFTs), lesion number, size of largest liver lesion, neoadjuvant chemotherapy), operative variables (anatomical vs non-anatomical, major vs minor, redo liver surgery, concomitant use of ablation techniques, blood loss, blood transfusions, Pringle’s manoeuvre), and post-operative variables (complications, length of hospital stay, histological parameters) were analysed.
Post-diagnosis hemoglobin change associates with overall survival of multiple...Enrique Moreno Gonzalez
Anemia refers to low hemoglobin (Hb) level and is a risk factor of cancer patient survival. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network recently suggested that post-diagnosis Hb change, regardless of baseline Hb level, indicates the potential presence of anemia. However, there is no epidemiological study evaluating whether Hb change has direct prognostic values for cancer patients at the population level.

Background: The partner and localizer of breast cancer 2 (PALB2) has an essential role in BRCA2 mediated DNA
double-strand break repair by serving as a bridging molecule and acting as the physical and functional link between BRCA1&
2 proteins. Truncating mutations in the PALB2 gene are rare but are thought to be associated with increased risk of developing
breast and /or ovarian cancer in different populations. The present study was designed to investigate the variants of PALB2 and
their association with OC.
Material &Methods: A total of 150 histopathologically confirmed ovarian cancer patients and 250 healthy age matched controls
were collected. Three SNPs c.2794 G/A( rs45624036), c.1010 T/C(rs45494092), and c.1676A/G(rs152451) of PALB2 gene were
selected and genotyped by ARMS-PCR followed by agarose gel electrophoresis. Appropriate statistical tests were applied to test
for the significance of the results.
Results: A significant association of G/A (rs45624036) in inheritance models was observed & at the allelic level, the A allele
conferred four-fold increased risk compared to G allele. Regarding T/C (rs45494092) polymorphism all the models revealed an
association with OC and C allele showing eight-fold increased risk. With respect to A/G (rs152451) polymorphism, the protective
role was observed in tested inheritance models in OC patients.
The Haplo analysis for the combination of all the three variants revealed increased risk with A-T-A and G-C-G
haplotypes.(OR=4.50 ;95%CI 1.85-10.94;p=0.001,OR=26.36 ;95%CI 2.33 -297.91;p= 0.0085), whereas other haplotypes
conferred a protective role in OC.
Conclusions: The present study suggests an essential role of PALB2 in the etiology of ovarian cancer.
hMSH2 Gly322Asp (rs4987188) Single nucleotide polymorphism and the risk of br...Agriculture Journal IJOEAR
Aim: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women both in the developed and less developed world. The reported study was designed to explore associations between hMSH2 - Gly322Asp (1032G>A, rs4987188) single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and the risk of breast carcinoma in the Polish women.
Material and methods: Blood samples were obtained from women with breast cancer (n=225), treated at the Department of Oncological Surgery and Breast Diseases, Polish Mother’s Memorial Hospital – Research Institute between the years 2005 and 2012. A control group included 220 cancer-free women. Genomic DNA was isolated and the SNP Gly322Asp of hMSH2 was determined by High-Resolution Melter method. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated for each genotype and allele.
Results: This study revealed that single nucleotide polymorphism Gly322Asp of hMSH2 is associated with both breast cancer risk and grading. Moreover, it can be linked with breast carcinoma tumor size and lymph node status. The Asp allele in patients may be a risk factor for breast carcinoma (OR 5.12; 95% CI 3.77 –6.97, p<.0001).
Conclusions: Gly322Asp single nucleotide polymorphism of hMSH2 may be a risk factor of breast cancer in the Polish women.

New Predictors for Periampullary Resectabilityasclepiuspdfs
Background: Periampullary tumor involves ampullary, pancreatic, biliary and duodenal mucosa, and pancreaticoduodenectomy considered the curative option. Hence, imaging evaluation to describe the lesion is important. Furthermore, certain specific features could help in pre-operative prediction of resectability for periampullary cancers. The aim of this study is to find out any specific perioperative predictor of resectability on periampullary cancers. Patients and Methods: This is an observational cross-sectional hospital-based study done in tertiary hospital, a total of 79 patients were included in the study. Variables such as age, gender, symptoms (back pain, jaundice, etc.), investigations (bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, etc.), and imaging (Triphasic computed tomography [CT], magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography, endoscopic ultrasonography, etc.) were studied and the data collected and analyzed using SPSS 20. Results: Male was slightly predominant and male to female ratio was 1:0.9. The mean age was 50 years (SD ±6.54). Triphasic CT abdomen pancreatic protocol was the most effective modality of investigation. High bilirubin (>10 mg/dl) and back pain were statistically significant among patients with unresectable tumor. Conclusions: Back pain and high bilirubin could be helpful in pre-operative prediction of operability of periampullary cancers.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease with multisystem complications arising from both underlying disease activity and therapy-related side effects. SLE’s association with lymphoma is a well-established phenomenon. Studies have reported a higher incidence of lymphoma in the SLE population compared with healthy cohorts.[1,2] A 45-year-old woman with SLE presented with fever, cough, sputum, loss of appetite, and fatigue for 4 months. Before that time, her (SLE) symptoms had been well controlled on hydroxychloroquine, azathioprine, and small dose prednisone. Physical examination at initial evaluation was remarkable for bilateral inspiratory crackles. Laboratory investigations were normal. Computed tomography to chest showed bilateral cavitary pulmonary nodules and masses. Bronchoscopy with transbronchial biopsy was done. The histopathology showed diffuse large B-cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The patient referred to oncology service, where they started her on 4 cycles of R-CHOP by followed 4 cycles of high-dose chemotherapy. She underwent hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and achieved complete remissions.
Prevalence of Gallbladder Cancer in Arsenic Endemic Areas-Crimson PublishersCrimsonpublishersCancer
Association between exposure to high arsenic content and gallbladder cancer is scanty. Few reports suggest that the incidence of gallbladder cancer is high along the Indo-Gangetic belt. Inflammation, which is a causative factor for gallbladder carcinoma can be induced by arsenic. Prognosis of gallbladder cancer is poor. Therefore, it is worthwhile to find a correlation between arsenic exposure and its incidence to identify a population who are at high risk category.

Cell-free DNA Levels Serum Patients with Benign and Malignant Epithelial Ovar...inventionjournals
An elevated level of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) in the blood circulation has detected in cancer patients in comparison with healthy controls. CfDNA circulation in plasma and serum extensively studied and the results are highly variable due to many factors influence the test results that was preanalytic factors as well as analytic factors. Objectives: Is there any difference in the concentration of serum DNA among patients with benign epithelial ovarian tumors and malignant epithelial ovarian tumors? What is the clinicopathological variable that influences the cfDNA circulation? Method: Venous blood drawn with plain vacutainer, centrifuged at 1,000 rpm for 30 minutes, serum kept in -800 C freezer. The cfDNA extracted used NaI method. Results: Collected 30 cases of the benign ovarian tumor and 54 cases of malignant ovarian tumors. The average level serum cfDNA of benign epithelial ovarian tumors and malignant epithelial ovarian tumors were 24.6 ng/mL and 22:29 ng/mL respectively and statistically was not significantly different (p = 0.64). In multivariable analysis with linear regression, there were no clinicopathological variables that statistically significant influence the cfDNA levels in patients with epithelial ovarian tumors where p > 0.05. Conclusion: Concentration of cfDNA circulation of benign epithelial ovarian tumors a little bit higher than malignant epithelial ovarian tumors, but statistically was not significantly different. There was no clinicopathological variable influence the concentration of cfDNA circulation of ovarian tumors.

HCC Clinical update and hints from AASLD 2017 guidelines mainly about surveillance, diagnosis and treatment of Hepatocellular carcinoma in different stages.
This study was performed to analyze the efficacy and safety of con-current radiotherapy and weekly paclitaxel in the treatment of carcinoma of uterine cervix. Hundred patients with locally advanced (stages IIB to IVA according to FIGO classification) carcinoma of uterine cervix were enrolled, radiotherapy was conventionally administered: 50.4 Gy/28 fractions by external beam (whole pelvis) followed by HDR-Intracavitary brachytherapy, 4 fractions of 7 Gy each. Paclitaxel was administered on weekly basis at dose of 40 mg ∕m2 during entire course of external beam radiotherapy. Treatment response was evaluated three months after the end of radiotherapy by means of clinical examination and ultrasonography. Complete Regression (CR) in 83%, partial response (PR) 14% and progressive disease 3%. At 26 months of median follow up 73 patients alive, 58 patients are disease free. The results of this study suggest that concurrent chemo radiotherapy is feasible in treatment of carcinoma cervix with acceptable and manageable toxicity and paclitaxel act as radio sensitizer in locally advanced cervical cancer.

The X-linked ribosomal protein S4 (RPS4X), which is involved in cellular translation and proliferation, has previously been identified as a partner of the overexpressed multifunctional protein YB-1 in several breast cancer cells. Depletion of RPS4X results in consistent resistance to cisplatin in such cell lines.
