Panera Bread launched Panera 2.0 in 2014 to digitally transform its business operations and customer experience. This involved introducing in-store kiosks and a mobile app for ordering and payment. It has been very successful, with same-store sales growing 2.4% in 2015 in cafes that adopted the technology compared to 0.1% growth the year before. Transaction growth also increased impressively. Panera's chief transformation officer sees the results as validating their tech-centered strategy to make up for lost time investing in technology.
