A photo essay covering a panel discussion titled "What is the Jewish Community's obligation to special needs children?" which was held on May 24th, 2010 at Congregation Shearith Israel in NYC. Organized by a couple whose special needs daughter was not accepted to a local Jewish day school (they are presently parents in the school), the evening featured a discussion and Q&A. Panelists included: Dr. Jed Luchow, Director of Special Needs of the Board of Jewish Education, Moderator Dr. Jeff Lichtman, Director, Yachad/the National Jewish Council for Disabilities Rabbi Dov Linzer, Rosh Yeshiva Yeshivat Chovevei Torah Rabbinical School (YCT) and his wife Devorah Zlochower, a Jewish Educator Richard Bernstein, Chairman, Wayne State University Board of Governors, Professor, University of Michigan, and Disability Rights Attorney Jonathan Cooper, LCSW, Program Director of Inclusion Services, Kulanu Co-sponsored by Shearith Israel Synagogue, the Board of Jewish Education, Yachad of the Orthodox Union, Kulanu Kids, Matan Kids, the Jewish Community Center, the Hebrew Academy for Special Children, the 92nd Street Y, and JICNY.
