This document summarizes a study on place-based policy in resource-dependent rural communities. The study finds that resource-dependent communities form a distinct group of rural communities that have been negatively impacted by the increasing concentration of economic activity in urban areas. The study also finds that place-based policy interventions focused on job creation would be effective in improving the economic performance of resource-dependent communities. Additionally, the study indicates that the resource-dependent communities most in need of assistance and most likely to benefit from intervention can be identified.
