professional
development

1. Developing action skills
 To improve your professional development, it is
important to have in mind those things that we
want to reach. In other words, we have to set our
goals, how we want to see ourselves in the future.
I would like to…
 Increase my willpower.
 Be more responsible.
 Be more dinamic and positive.
 Be more creative.
 Learn another languages and be fluent
and accurate.
I have to…
 Teach with new methods, focused on
technology.
 Be more organized.
 Be more punctual.
 Accomplish my commitments 100 %.
 Take it easy. Stress is not healthy at all!
Simple actions (I will…)
 Write down all my tasks and events on a
calendar or agenda.
 Look for information and effective tips
and ideas(on books, Internet, etc.)
 Download apps, read books, watch
movies and take classes of the languages
I want to learn.
(I will…)
 Establish time to do every activity by
giving priority to the most important ones.
 Think about my goals and take
responsibility to anything that will help me
to reach them.
 Keep on practicing rock-climbing, and
hiking. Also, I will take a break, read a
book and enjoy nature.
2. Set long terms
goals first
 Am I giving my 100 % at work?
 Am I satisfied with my achievements?
 Do I have the “calling” on what I do?
 Am I applying new ideas on what I
perform?
 How much creative and efficient I
describe myself?
 Is there anything I must change?
 Am I working just for the money?
3. Technical knowledge
 It is necessary to learn as much as we
can. Everyday, the society demands
people with excepcional knowledge and
professional skills. We cannot stay in the
same thing we know since we got
graduated from High School.
“Everyday is an opportunity to learn something
new and useless.” -Josh Stern
4. Developing actions-steps (Concrete
steps to improve as a professional)
 Set your goals, the ones that will help you
to become a professional.
 If it is time to change something in your
life, change it.
 Drop those things that do not help you to
improve.
 Move forward. Hard situations will
appear on your life, but you cannot
stay in there all the time.
5. Make a record of you “pinnacle
moments”
 Create either a digital or physical album
of photos about those moments that
made you feel proud of yourself.
 Your work, recognitions, trips, and all those
special events along your life.
 Intrinsic motivation is important!
6. Evaluate yourself
 Evaluate what are your current skills and
your strengths as well as your weaknesses
in your career or professional development.
 Work especially with the limiting factors by
pursuing academic degrees, certification
programs or self-developing courses.
