appearance in every yuga by his own

CHAPTER 5 -
ACTION AND NO
REACTION
• Work with combination of knowledge
• Arjuna’s doubt- Renunciation OR Action?
• Work in devotion is better than mere
renunciation of work
CHAPTER 6 - MEDITATION
• Control mind by astanga yoga and following strict
rules- solitude, celibacy, severe austerities, fasting,
silence, and total disregard for worldly activities
• Arjuna refuses
• Krishna suggests its possible by practice and
detachment, which are natural in bhakti
• He is best yogi who thinks of Krishna and renders
service to Him
CHAPTER 7 -
KNOWLEDGE OF
ABSOLUTE
• Knowledge of Krishna, process of that
knowledge and result of that knowledge
• His energies- inferior and superior; He is
source of both, and also origin and
dissolution
• How to think about Krishna- taste of water,
light of the Sun and Moon, intelligence of
intelligent etc etc
• Four kinds of pious people surrender and
four kinds of people don’t surrender
• Overcome modes by surrender to Krishna
• Vasudevam sarvam iti
• Even at the time of death, know me and
attain spiritual world
CHAPTER 8 - ATTAINING THE
SUPREME
• At the time of death- what is the destination for
different yogis (karma, gnana, Dhyana, bhakti)
• Quality of consciousness determines the next
destination
• Even Brahma loka is destroyed; Only Vaikunthas are
eternal
• Bhakti yogi never returns to material world
CHAPTER 9 - THE MOST
CONFIDENTIAL
KNOWLEDGE
• Sanatana dharma- eternal, constitutional function
or activity of soul
• Without this sanatana dharma, souls will be lost
• Krishna is object of worship, goal, sustainer,
master, witness, refuge etc
• Krishan gives what one lacks and protects what
one has
• Offer even a leaf, water, flower or fruit with
devotion- Krishna will accept
• Anyone can approach Krishna- he is equal to all
• Always think of Krishna, become His devotee,
offer obeisances and worship Him.
CHAPTER 10 - THE
OPULENCE OF THE
ABSOLUTE
• Continuation of His energies from
seventh chapter
• One who know Krsihna as the Supreme
source of everything will serve Krishna
with devotion
• 10.8-11 – Most important verses
• There is no end to Krishna’s Divine
manifestations
• With a single fragment of His energies,
Krishna pervade and support this entire
universe
CHAPTER 11 - THE
UNIVERSAL FORM
• By showing His virata rupa- He
confirms that He is the source and
cause of everything
• Krishna concludes that He is source of
everything
• Spectacular Universal form is shown in
one place
• Universal form, then Narayana form,
and then Krishna
• Only by unalloyed devotion one can
understand Krishna as He is. Not by any
other means (vedic study, penances,
charity or worship)
CHAPTER 12 -
DEVOTIONAL
SERVICE
• Concludes personal form of worship is
better than impersonal form worship
• Defines pure bhakti and provides
intermediate steps to reach that pure
bhakti for the people who cant follow
that.
• Qualities of pure devotee- not envious,
kind friend, free from false ego,
tolerant, satisfied, self-controlled,
engaged in devotional service with
determination etc etc
CHAPTER 13 - NATURE,
ENJOYER AND
CONSCIOUSNESS
• Distinction between body, soul and
Super Soul
• Analogy- Tenant (soul) living in
apartment (body/field of activity) and
Super Soul (owner) of all apartments
(bodies)
• Qualities of Super Soul- he is the
knower of all the bodies/ field of
activities.
• One who understands body, soul,
Super Soul attains the Supreme
Destination
CHAPTER 14 - THREE
MODES OF
MATERIAL NATURE
• How soul is entangled in this material world
– by three modes of material nature
• How they act, how they bind and how one
can be liberated from them
• Characteristics of Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas
explained
• What are the symptoms of person free from
three modes described – realizes he is
spiritual, and transcendental to matter and
unconcerned and unaffected by three modes
• One transcends three modes attains the
stage of brahman, preliminary stage
• Krishna declares he is basis of Brahman
CHAPTER 15 - THE
YOGA OF SUPREME
PERSON
• How to break attachment from material
world
• Compared this material world as reflection of
spiritual world with example of reflection of
banyan tree in a lake

  • 3. CHAPTER 1 - ARJUNA’S DILEMMA • Result of material attachment- lamentation • Bodily platform • Morality over Krishna’s words- Arjuna got confused • Importance of taking shelter of Guru • Krishna ‘s determination to fight the war
  • 4. CHAPTER 2 – NO DEATH FOR SOUL • Body is perishable, soul is eternal • Difference between dead body and living body
  • 5. CHAPTER 3 - DO YOUR DUTY • Understanding soul is not enough; Practice being soul • Varna ashrama system- perfect system of social spiritual system • Karma yoga- following Krishna’s instructions • System of sacrifices • Karma yoga in different levels • PEACEFUL, STEADY, AND HAPPY- symptoms of self realized person • BE YOURSELF- don’t be pretender • AVOID BONDAGE (like a cocoon) - work as sacrifice for Lord Vishnu • BEWARE OF LUST

CHAPTER 4 – TRANSCEDENTAL KNOWLEDGE • Different sources of knowledge- direct experience, logic, learn from disciplic succession (parampara- best) • Arjuna’s doubt- Krishna spoke Gita to Sun God many million years ago • Krishna can remember all previous lives • Krishna reciprocates with his devotees- appearance in every yuga by his own will • Work without knowledge is useless
  • 7. CHAPTER 5 - ACTION AND NO REACTION • Work with combination of knowledge • Arjuna’s doubt- Renunciation OR Action? • Work in devotion is better than mere renunciation of work
  • 8. CHAPTER 6 - MEDITATION • Control mind by astanga yoga and following strict rules- solitude, celibacy, severe austerities, fasting, silence, and total disregard for worldly activities • Arjuna refuses • Krishna suggests its possible by practice and detachment, which are natural in bhakti • He is best yogi who thinks of Krishna and renders service to Him
  • 9. CHAPTER 7 - KNOWLEDGE OF ABSOLUTE • Knowledge of Krishna, process of that knowledge and result of that knowledge • His energies- inferior and superior; He is source of both, and also origin and dissolution • How to think about Krishna- taste of water, light of the Sun and Moon, intelligence of intelligent etc etc • Four kinds of pious people surrender and four kinds of people don’t surrender • Overcome modes by surrender to Krishna • Vasudevam sarvam iti • Even at the time of death, know me and attain spiritual world
  • 10. CHAPTER 8 - ATTAINING THE SUPREME • At the time of death- what is the destination for different yogis (karma, gnana, Dhyana, bhakti) • Quality of consciousness determines the next destination • Even Brahma loka is destroyed; Only Vaikunthas are eternal • Bhakti yogi never returns to material world
  • 11. CHAPTER 9 - THE MOST CONFIDENTIAL KNOWLEDGE • Sanatana dharma- eternal, constitutional function or activity of soul • Without this sanatana dharma, souls will be lost • Krishna is object of worship, goal, sustainer, master, witness, refuge etc • Krishan gives what one lacks and protects what one has • Offer even a leaf, water, flower or fruit with devotion- Krishna will accept • Anyone can approach Krishna- he is equal to all • Always think of Krishna, become His devotee, offer obeisances and worship Him.
  • 12. CHAPTER 10 - THE OPULENCE OF THE ABSOLUTE • Continuation of His energies from seventh chapter • One who know Krsihna as the Supreme source of everything will serve Krishna with devotion • 10.8-11 – Most important verses • There is no end to Krishna’s Divine manifestations • With a single fragment of His energies, Krishna pervade and support this entire universe
  • 13. CHAPTER 11 - THE UNIVERSAL FORM • By showing His virata rupa- He confirms that He is the source and cause of everything • Krishna concludes that He is source of everything • Spectacular Universal form is shown in one place • Universal form, then Narayana form, and then Krishna • Only by unalloyed devotion one can understand Krishna as He is. Not by any other means (vedic study, penances, charity or worship)
  • 14. CHAPTER 12 - DEVOTIONAL SERVICE • Concludes personal form of worship is better than impersonal form worship • Defines pure bhakti and provides intermediate steps to reach that pure bhakti for the people who cant follow that. • Qualities of pure devotee- not envious, kind friend, free from false ego, tolerant, satisfied, self-controlled, engaged in devotional service with determination etc etc
  • 15. CHAPTER 13 - NATURE, ENJOYER AND CONSCIOUSNESS • Distinction between body, soul and Super Soul • Analogy- Tenant (soul) living in apartment (body/field of activity) and Super Soul (owner) of all apartments (bodies) • Qualities of Super Soul- he is the knower of all the bodies/ field of activities. • One who understands body, soul, Super Soul attains the Supreme Destination
  • 16. CHAPTER 14 - THREE MODES OF MATERIAL NATURE • How soul is entangled in this material world – by three modes of material nature • How they act, how they bind and how one can be liberated from them • Characteristics of Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas explained • What are the symptoms of person free from three modes described – realizes he is spiritual, and transcendental to matter and unconcerned and unaffected by three modes • One transcends three modes attains the stage of brahman, preliminary stage • Krishna declares he is basis of Brahman
  • 17. CHAPTER 15 - THE YOGA OF SUPREME PERSON • How to break attachment from material world • Compared this material world as reflection of spiritual world with example of reflection of banyan tree in a lake • Don’t jump from one branch of tree to another (heavenly planets etc) with the help of Vedas • Know the purpose of Vedas • Description of spiritual world • Transmigration of material bodies- set of eyes, ears, nose etc • Serving Krishna is the essence of Vedic scriptures
  • 18. CHAPTER 16 - THE DIVINE AND DEMONIAC NATURES • To be elevated to spiritual platform, one must act according to Vedic scriptures, not one’s own mental speculation • Divine qualities are liberating and demoniac qualities are binding • Demoniac qualities- anger, pride, harshness, lust • Involved in destructive activities. Atheists. • Demons sink down into lowest species of life
  • 19. CHAPTER 17 - THE DIVISIONS OF FAITH • Different types of faith developed as per three modes (with and without scriptures); • Food • Sacrifice • Austerity and Charity • Faith in modes of passion and ignorance leads to impermanence of results • Faith in mode of goodness lead to devotion to Krishna • Devotion to Krishna is above the three modes of nature
  • 20. CHAPTER 18 - THE PERFECTION OF RENUNCIATION • Sannyasa - Renounce results not actions • Act reaction-free • Five factors for action • Senses • Place of action • Soul • Actions • Super soul • Sarva dharman parityaja mam ekam • One who studies this knowledge is worshipping Krishna with his intelligence • Preach this knowledge to others - He is the dearest to Krishna • Wherever Krishna and Arjuna is present opulence, victory, extraordinary power, and morality is guaranteed
