The document discusses the importance of recognizing Black Women's Equal Pay Day to highlight the pay gap experienced by Black women. It notes that as of 2021, Black women make only 60.8 cents for every dollar earned by White men, and at the current rate of progress, pay equality may not be achieved until 2119. Highlighting this issue is meant to bring greater awareness and identify solutions to speed up progress toward closing the racial and gender pay gaps.
The document provides information about Imara-Women Empowerment Foundation (IWEF), a non-governmental organization in the Democratic Republic of Congo that aims to empower women and address issues they face. IWEF was created by Viviane Furaha to help Congolese women overcome vulnerabilities by promoting their rights, development, and participation in society. The organization targets impoverished women, survivors of sexual violence, those living with HIV/AIDS, in rural areas, with disabilities, single mothers rejected by families, and illiterate women. IWEF's goals are to advocate for equality, help women gain awareness of their rights, and support their socioeconomic development and stability through various community projects.
This document discusses Masello Motanapitsi Ya Legola, a South African actress known for her activism. It describes how she created an alter ego, Cyrilina Ramaposer, to satirize South African leaders through songs and videos. Cyrilina criticizes their disconnect from the people and focus on wealth over social issues. The document also outlines Masello's outspoken opinions on politics and injustice in South Africa through platforms like radio and interviews. She launched Cyrilina in response to the Marikana massacre and election of Cyril Ramaphosa, representing the disconnect between leaders and citizens. While some find her means extreme, others admire her active citizenship and bravery in taking a stand.

The document outlines an organization called Save Our Sisters that aims to empower women and address global issues impacting women, such as slavery, rape, and high maternal mortality. It discusses three main issues - slavery and sex trafficking, rape as a weapon, and death during childbirth. It then provides information on related topics like sex trafficking, violence against women, and fistulas resulting from childbirth complications. Finally, it describes ways for women to get involved through joining Save Our Sisters, fundraising, volunteering, education and hosting awareness events.

This document discusses traditional economic ventures undertaken by women in rural Dagbon, Ghana. It explores cotton spinning and pottery, which provide income to women while being tied to cultural and social practices. These ventures have received little attention compared to activities promoted by NGOs. However, they remain important livelihood sources for women and are interwoven with community needs and traditions. While facing threats from modernization, supporting these ventures could help address rural women's livelihoods in culturally appropriate ways. The document calls for greater understanding of the social contexts in which rural women pursue their livelihood activities.

This document discusses opportunities and challenges facing the charity sector in 2016. It notes that 2016 will be a year of change as new regulations and scrutiny take effect following scandals in 2015. However, it also highlights positive factors, such as thousands of volunteers continuing to donate time and money to support important causes. It argues the sector must avoid knee-jerk reactions to challenges and instead focus on leadership, transparency, and beneficiary needs. Overall the sector faces difficulties but also opportunities to innovate in responding to pressures and serving communities.
This document discusses the changing roles and priorities of women, particularly mothers, over recent decades. It finds that while women have made significant advances professionally and educationally since the 1960s, they still bear most of the responsibilities of household and childcare. Younger generations of mothers, particularly Generations X and Y, are more pragmatic about having a career and family, realizing "having it all" does not mean doing it all. They prioritize family over career more than their predecessors and want support from marketers in feeling empowered and having more free time.

The 2014 annual report of Women for Women International summarizes their work supporting marginalized women affected by conflict. Their mission is to help women earn and save money, improve health and well-being, influence decisions, and connect to support networks. The report outlines their programs and impact in enabling women to start businesses, access health services, participate in decisions, and form cooperatives and associations for support.
This document discusses the importance of blood donation and encourages women to take a leadership role in promoting donation. It notes that there is no way to manufacture blood and it can only come from human donors. Blood is needed to help those with serious health issues, accidents, surgeries, and blood disorders. Donated blood only lasts 40 days so constant replenishment is needed. Women especially should promote donation as they require significant blood for childbirth and medical procedures. Developing blood donation as a habit and motivating others could help solve the critical need for blood.

The document is an essay by Elie Ngandu discussing America's immigrant dream and perspectives on poverty in America. [1] Ngandu's parents immigrated from the Democratic Republic of Congo to the U.S. for more opportunities. [2] Ngandu believes in the American dream and cites statistics showing some immigrant groups earn higher incomes than native-born Americans and foreign-born blacks earn more than U.S.-born blacks. [3] However, Ngandu also acknowledges the complex causes of poverty and that not all perspectives see equal opportunity, recognizing the lasting impacts of oppression like slavery on African Americans.

As IWPR research shows, Black women make 60.8 cents for
every dollar earned by a White man. Progress in closing the
gap is also glacially slow: if current trends continue Black
women will not see equal pay for another century, until 2119.
It is important to recognize Black Women's Equal Pay Day to
highlight these differences by race/ethnicity so that we can
better identify solutions to speed up progress.

On Black Woman's Equal Pay Day, we are working together to draw
attention to the fact that Black women earn only two thirds of the
wealth of white men. But it's also important to shine a light on the
wealth gap for Black women, which is actually a chasm. Today, Black
women own just pennies on the dollar compared to white men and
white women. If we're going to get to the root causes of the insecurity
facing Black women and their families, we have to address the
systemic factors driving both income and wealth inequality.

Black Women’s Equal Pay Day is critical because it forces us to
consider the unique social and economic experiences of Black
women in America and takes our attention off averages. The
wage gap Black women face is rooted not only in patriarchal
attitudes toward women’s work, but historic injustices that
denied social and economic uplift to African American
communities, the effects of which are still unremedied today.

Many black women serve as the head of household for their
families. So in order to pursue a more equal world in which people
of color and especially black women have the same opportunities as
white people, we need to ensure that these families have the
monetary power to affect their situation. Also, the pay gap is just
straight up unfair and advocating for the closure of the pay gap is
just the right thing to do. We need to advocate for intersectional
feminism and acknowledge the challenges that women of color
face.

equally available to everyone.

The repercussions of paying Black Women less for the
same work are far more reaching than financial. When
Black Women are underpaid, we affect the outcomes of
the families they support, the education that they and
those around them are able to attain, and their socio-
emotional well being. Equal pay for equal work is simply
what is right and fair.

In the restaurant industry, Black women servers and bartenders lose
more than $400,000 over a lifetime to gender pay discrimination,
exacerbated in large part by the subminimum wage for tipped
workers, still just $2.13 an hour. Since 70% of tipped workers are
women, and a disproportionate number of tipped workers (servers
and bartenders) are women of color. All restaurant workers should
receive a full livable wage from their employer; and all workers
deserves to be compensated and valued for the professional work
that they do. We need equal pay for Black women now!

"To change the narrative we need to know the real story". In order to
ensure basic economic rights, healthier families and communities, we
must engage and encourage call to actions to leverage fair pay for all
especially black women who are the majority group of females as
head-of households.

Its important to highlight Black Women's Equal Pay Day because
women of color in general are never treated equally in the work place
when comparing the salary wages with those that are white men.
Women in general in comparison to men have always been considered
last on the totum pole when it comes to discussions about career and
salary for any profession so to high light Black women Equal pay day is
extremely important because to fight for Black women to have equal
pay means to fight for all women of color ....Black women in this fight
represent all women of color in the fight for equal pay !!

Closing the pay gap for Black women is fundamental to increasing
retention at our companies. Employees who are paid fairly and
equitably are more committed. And, more importantly, to take a
stance fo equal pay signals that we stand with the majority of
Americans who see that a pay gap exists and is unfair. It's time to
stand on the right side

Traded Fund which includes the stocks of 200 publicly traded
companies who rank along 19 women's empowerment criteria. One of
the criteria is whether the companies have audited for equal pay. This
financial product creates an incentive for companies to evaluate their
human resources practices to protect against gender and racial
discrimination.

Black Women's Equal Pay Day needs to be commemorated so we as a
society can move this past an act of commemoration to justice and
equity manifested and realized. Commemoration is passive and can be
used as a box checked without any necessary self-reflection or action
to actually address the issue. We at TiA/ST will observe and live this
day as a Call to Action and Cry for Equity instead.

It is important to highlight BWEPD because we need to be laser
focused on how much work remains to be done. Gender equality and
racial equality are not realities yet; but we aspire to reach equality not
because of profits but because it is the right thing. It is the thing that
we know in our hearts is just and right. It is part of our American
values to our core. We use today to remind ourselves to keep chipping
away at bias, discrimination, and injustice. We use today to keep
advancing towards a more perfect version of our city.

Commemorating Black Women's Equal Pay Day is a critical step towards
improving women’s access to well-paying jobs that could help close the gender
pay gap. STEM industries and fields hold particular promise given their
continued growth and higher wages for those with proper training. But
women—and especially women of color—are significantly underrepresented in
STEM fields. The Chicago Council on Science and Technology aims to increase
the number of women pursuing STEM careers and to inspire the next generation
of diverse STEM professionals.

In 2018, there were 2.4 million African-American women-owned
businesses, a growth of 164 percent over the past decade (2018 State
of Women Owned Business Report). As great as this figure is, it
highlights the increasing need to address the systemic barriers that
Black women face in receiving the same equitable access to
opportunities in a business and workplace landscape that has not
been inclusive. In spaces where Black women in particular have felt
invisible; the National Diversity Council will continue to advocate for
more representation, equal pay and overall support and growth.

Imagine asking a white male to work an extra eight months and twenty-two days
to earn what a Black woman earns in a year. It's unfathomable because for
centuries Black labor has been either free, undervalued, and underpaid. In a
world where the progressive movement is fighting for their lives, we should also
be fighting for the lives and livelihood of Black women. Their emotional,
physical, and invisible labor has been taken for granted and the time is now to
demand change. Pay women what we deserve but especially pay Black women
fair and equitable wages for the work they do now. There is no reason why we
should be asking Black women to work another decade or three to earn what a
white man earns now. We cannot have a just world without centering the needs
and experiences of Black women.
