Research and Academic Experience
Researcher - Brain Mapping Laboratory at University of Florida January 2015 – December 2015
o Scientist member of a research project focused on impulsive control disorder in patients diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
o Set up system to collect neuronal data during open brain surgery, and analyze data through statistical and graphical methods
using Matlab.
o In charge of coding Matlab program to analyze single neuron signals collected from patients for individual or group analysis.
Clinical Research - Shadowing Dr. Cibula February - April 2015
o Dr. Cibula is an affiliated member of the Epilepsy department at the University of Florida, I had the opportunity to shadow her
during outpatient visits and reviewed electroencephalography signals of epileptic episodes.
o I studied a current problem related to localizing the ictal-onset regions of refractory generalized epileptic patients, researched
and developed a project proposal.
Product Development - Orthopedic Fixation Device R&D: Novel Electrical Bone Screw August 2013 - May 2014
o Designed and developed a method to enhance healing of bone fractures via electrical stimulation through a bone screw.
o Developed a new copolymer bone screw by coating polyetheretherketone (PEEK) with polypyrrole (PPY), and performed
conductivity tests to assess characteristics of conductive polymer
o Conducted in vitro assays to determine the biocompatibility, and effectiveness as a conductive polymer
Product Development - Coulter College at Biomedical Engineering Society Conference Seattle 2013 September 23-25 2013
o Researched, designed, and presented a solution for an unmet clinical need during a 3-day national competition.
o Examined feedback from clinicians in order to perform disease state & observational studies.
o Aside from the engineering aspect of the solution, the team studied the economical, business, current market, and legal aspects
required in order to translate the solution from bench to market.
