Smart Data Webinar (SLIDES): Agile Enterprise OntologyDATAVERSITY
An Enterprise Ontology is a formal representation of the meaning of an enterprise's information. Historically creating one has been a laborious process that took many months, often years to complete.
Recent advances in technology and methodology have now made it possible to build a core enterprise ontology in a matter of weeks, and to refine it gracefully over time. In this presentation we will describe what an enterprise ontology is and distinguish it from a conceptual or logical data model. We will present how the combination of structure free and formal inclusion gives power and flexibility simultaneously.
We will show through case studies how companies have been able to build ontologies rapidly and how they have leverage their enterprise ontology onto such diverse initiatives as: Enterprise Message Modeling, Integrating Structured and Unstructured Data, Model Driven Application Development and Master Data Management.
After attending this webinar, you will be able to:
* Describe what an Enterprise Ontology is
* Explain the value in creating an Enterprise Ontology
* Outline the approach and prerequisites for creating an Enterprise Ontology
* Suggest projects that could be greatly enhanced by applying an Enterprise Ontology

The document advocates an iterative process of taking action with available means and allowing outcomes to develop organically rather than relying solely on predictive business plans and analyses.
The document discusses business intelligence and what it means to have smarter knowledge about a business. It notes that currently many businesses rely on outdated spreadsheets, meetings with accountants, and best judgments to understand their business. This can lead to problems like unexpected costs and cash flow issues. The document envisions having knowledge that is more precise and accurate, connects all parts of the business, predicts the future, and is always improving based on new data. This type of knowledge would allow businesses to forecast jobs, respond correctly to changes, and have answers to any business questions on demand through easy to use dashboards.
This document discusses the challenges that managers face in balancing short-term needs with long-term innovative projects. It notes that return on investment (ROI) is often used to evaluate projects but can fail to capture the potential of truly innovative ideas. The document suggests expanding the definition of ROI to include "return on imagination," considering whether projects will spark new ideas and challenge assumptions. It argues that investing in building imagination and collaboration across a workforce can provide returns even if they are not immediately measurable.
Nick Jankel shares his journey from running profitable companies focused on consumerism to pursuing social innovation and entrepreneurship. He discusses the transition from Enterprise 1.0 focused solely on profit to Enterprise 2.0 which uses business as a vehicle to benefit people and the planet. Jankel advocates recalibrating the world towards thriveability by connecting head, heart and hand in service of people and the planet. He offers tools and training to teach others how to innovate and collaborate effectively to co-create a better world.
Why agile transformations could fail! v1.0Vineet Patni
The document discusses reasons why Agile transformations could fail. It notes that adopting Agile practices is different than transforming an organization's culture. Adopting practices has lower disruption and impact than transforming culture. The document lists potential reasons for failure, including treating Agile as just a plug-in rather than a holistic approach, lack of involvement from HR, a "superhero" culture rather than collaborative teams, and prioritizing the individual over the team/organization. It emphasizes that Agile transformation is difficult and will expose existing problems.
This webinar discusses AI testing and how it can be used for A/B and multivariate testing. It introduces Sentient Ascend, an AI product that uses evolutionary algorithms to test many website variables at once. The webinar explains how Sentient Ascend works, generating initial website designs and selecting high-performing ones over multiple generations to converge on an optimal design. It also discusses when AI testing is appropriate, such as for large sites, and how it can provide faster results than traditional A/B testing through testing many combinations simultaneously.
The document discusses important questions to consider before designing a website, such as the goal of the site, intended audience, how often the site will need to be updated, and accessibility requirements. Key questions include what outcomes the site aims to achieve, who it is trying to please or reach, how people will find and interact with the site, and what level of maintenance can be afforded. Understanding limitations is also important to setting appropriate expectations for the site design.

Now you can accurately predict if an opportunity you are considering pursuing will fail - and why. A new, AI-based method predicts the potential survival and growth rate of Horizon 3 opportunities with twice the accuracy of humans. The results are used to kill opportunities when they should be killed and shape Horizon 3 opportunities so they can actually deliver the growth rates your company needs. The Predictive Testing of Opportunities (PTO) service helps turn potential failure into success and helps you achieve the true potential of your most uncertain, highest impact opportunities.
The document discusses managing strategic uncertainty and innovation in business. It recommends that businesses 1) speed through the fragile "first mile" phase of moving from plan to reality by being DEFT (documenting plans, evaluating assumptions, focusing on uncertainties, and testing assumptions) and having HOPE during experimentation, 2) increase organizational curiosity to make strategic experimentation a natural part of the culture, and 3) seek chaos, broaden skills, and diversify networks to adapt to discontinuity and lead in times of change. The document emphasizes managing the unknown, testing assumptions quickly and cheaply, and cultivating a culture that supports failure and learning from failures.
This document provides an agenda and information for a meeting of the San Francisco Bay Area Local Chapter of HDI. The meeting will include registration, introductions, announcements, a keynote speech by John Reed of Robert Half Technology titled "Getting Ready for Gen Z", an informal discussion, and a raffle drawing. The keynote will discuss defining generations, who Generation Z is, how Gen Z wants to work, how to recruit and retain Gen Z talent, managing a multigenerational workforce, and recruiting Gen Z for IT teams. The document also lists upcoming events and provides contact information for the chapter's board of directors.

Great leaders engage employees by showing honesty, ability to delegate, communication skills, sense of humor, confidence, commitment, and positive attitude. They make their organizations places where talented people want to work by focusing on the employees and allowing their talents to grow. Innovation comes from achieving goals through fresh thinking, not just new technologies. Leaders must align their values to their people and regularly check that the organization still matches those values.
