The OpenNebula commitment to the open cloud flows directly out of its mission — to become the simplest cloud enabling platform — and its purpose — to bring simplicity to the private and hybrid enterprise cloud. OpenNebula exists to help companies build simple, cost-effective, reliable, open enterprise clouds on existing IT infrastructure. Today, the model of hybrid cloud comes under the eyes of a lot of organizations. The idea of combining resources of public cloud providers with private depending on the terms of execution, the need of more resources, an extra protection of the data, more or less security in services with sensitive information, etc. are some of the capabilities that this model has to answer. The case of CSUC, acting as cloud provider and at the same time as user of external IaaS and PaaS services, is analyzed sharing its first experiences in the way to archive a real multicloud architecture to provide services for catalan universities and research institutions.

This meetup will explore modernization strategies enabled by open-source project KubeVirt that will help you do just that. Legacy applications are usually monolithic and run on one or more virtual machines. Some applications are easier to modernize if they have well established counterparts in the containerized world (EAP, Spring Boot, etc). Large classic .Net applications running on IIS in Windows server are a lot harder to modernize in one shot. KubeVirt allows you to import your existing VM workloads into Kubernetes and modernize your application in stages. With KubeVirt, Virtual Machines are first-class citizens in Kubernetes and have access to all the artifacts that pods do, including being able to access and be accessed using service endpoints. Once you have the VM running in your Kubernetes project, you can start to modernize and extend the functionality of your application. We will import a .Net application running on IIS on a Windows Server VM into KubeVirt. Then we will go through the stages of containerizing each of the logical layers of the application. Kubernetes vs Dockers Swarm supporting ONAP-OOM on multi-cloud multi-stack environment Description: ONAP was set originally to support multiple container platform and cloud through TOSCA. In R1 ONAP and OOM is dependent completely on Kubernetes. As there are other container platforms such as Docker Swarm that are gaining more wider adoption as a simple alternative to Kubernetes. In addition operator may need the flexibility to choose their own container platform and be open for future platform. We need to weight the alternatives and avoid using package managers as Helm that makes K8s mandatory. The use of TOSCA in conjunction with Kubernetes provides that "happy medium" where on one hand we can leverage Kubernetes to a full extent while at the same time be open to other alternative. In this workshop, we will compare Kubernetes with Docker Swarm and walk through an example of how ONAP can be set to support both platforms using TOSCA.

Computer networks are undergoing a phenomenal growth, driven by the rapidly increasing number of nodes constituting the networks. At the same time, the number of security threats on Internet and intranet networks is constantly increasing, and the testing and experimentation of cyber defense solutions require the availability of separate, test environments that best reflect the complexity of a real system. Such environments support the deployment and monitoring of complex mission-driven network scenarios, and cyber security training activities, thus enabling enterprises to study cyber defense strategies and allowing security researchers to evaluate their algorithms at scale. OpenNebula users have a range of storage options available to them, including proprietary appliances, proprietary software and Open Source software projects. This session will present a fully Open Source approach, that tightly integrates with Linux, and makes full use of the mature building blocks within the Linux kernel (LVM, Software RAID, DM-crypt, NVMe-oF Target, DRBD, etc...), and delivers one of the highest performance open source storage stacks currently available. The core goal is to expose the improved performance of NVMe storage devices to VMs and containers. The solution covers both local NVMe drives and NVMe-oF. For interacting with NVMe-oF targets it supports the Swordfish-API and LVM & Linux’s software NVMe-oF target. The solution contains a storage addon for OpenNebula.

I'll review just what contributions we make, as well as how we use Goca with different tools, on a daily basis, to manage and monitor our OpenNebula cloud. zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex Proofs

This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).
