In what ways does your media
product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions
of real media products?
Arabella Cutts
One way in which my media product used the forms and conventions
of real Horror Opening Title Sequences was through the camera
shots/framing I used. Similar to the opening title sequence of
american horror story, I used the idea of a room to set my opening in,
showing certain areas and features of it in order to create suspense
and have an audience question what has been going on in the room.

Another way in which my opening title sequence used the forms
and conventions of real horror opening title sequences was through
the font I used for the title of my film. I used a bold plain looking text
which is often used in horror opening title sequences in order to to
emphasise the mysterious look of horror films as well as keep
suspense with calm titles before scaring people within the film.

A way I developed the forms and
conventions of a real horror opening title
sequence was my use of blood. In A few
opening titles including the American Horror
Story Hotel one, blood can be seen on
people or coming from people bleeding on
walls. I however used blood to be splattered
on the walls without it specifically being seen
coming from one person/object.

Another way in which I developed the
use of blood in my horror opening title
sequence was to have blood on the
floor as well as having it on multiple
‘weapons’ which are shown within.
Another way in which I used the forms and conventions of a Horror
opening title sequence was through the camera shots looking at a
person. In order to keep the story a secret and to keep the audience
feeling suspense, many opening title sequences only show parts of a
main character/person. I did this when showing a person in my opening
title sequence in order to not give too much away.

A final way in which I used the forms and conventions of horror opening
title sequences was by using a pan across a room in order to reveal
details within it such as location or weapons. This is often used in order
to show an audience part of the story without giving away too much and
still keeps the audience guessing.
