Thisaffects a number of industries such as pharmaceutical, biotechnology, environment, chemical, food to name a few.The challenge to replace animals with in vitro tests has proven to be exceptionally difficult. The convergence of test performance (sensitivity & specificity) with amenable technologies has not been possible for the majority of tests. For example, alternative tests to replace eye irritation, long term repeat dosing and skin barriers have not been possible. There is a distinct need to innovate in this domain. However, the International Energy Agency has stated that deployment of renewable technologies usually increases the diversity of electricity sources and, through local generation, contributes to supply flexibility.
