- Good afternoon and welcome to this webinar hosted by OnBoard as part of the our Atlas leadership series.
- I your host, Robert Barham-Brown, but know to all as Bob, and I’m Senior Manager of the Customer Success Team here at OnBoard and I’m joined today by Gaetan Cotton, Senior Service Designer with the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education, we get to speak with Gaetan shortly.
- A quick introduction to who we are at OnBoard: We are a board management software Designed to work the way you do Reducing complexity so boards and leadership teams can work smarter, move faster, and achieve more for the organizations they govern.

- Ok so let’s move on, Where are boards now?
- From where we sit change has been slow over the last couple of decades, but now boards are experiencing accelerated transformation. The function of the board has changed over the last 3 years more than we have seen in the last 18 years. We can take a look at some of the reason for this: The Pandemic Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) The economic downturn and our recovery from that, let’s not dwell on that any longer than needed And lets not forget about the constant challenge which is not just in our business life Cybersecurity threats. So how much has digital transformation changed.
- This highly complicated slide, shows a little or a lot of change and we truly believe there has been exponential change and growth to a digital transformation and the signals we are getting leads us to expect this to continue, We are as well seeing an increase in digitalisation of meetings outside the Board room such as Senior Leadership Teams.
- So moving from 2021 to 2022 we shared our observation in relation to new normal around Board governance The first being The best Board meetings obsessively bias the agenda towards action Looking and moving forward. Exceptional virtual board engagement can be achieved by thoughtfully digitizing all board meeting aspects Digitally native boards, the boards that began adopting and using digital technology in a positive way, are intentional about hybrid meetings, and actively prevent “digital dissing” The lack of a physical third dimension can kill the spirit of a board; the best Boards overcome this with the adoption of technology to aid them with conversation so they foster collaboration with technology and to improve engagement

- Ok, Where will board tech take us One of our partners the National Association of Corporate Directors (this is one of our US Partners) published a study at the end of 2021, and we noted 3 trends that we thought would be relative
- The three indicated are Increased competition for talent We have seen this, and a number of our customers have said the same Digital transformation 2nd on the list And one that I have already highlighted will always be a headliner Cybersecurity threats. There are other areas on this list and I’m sure have received our attention and possibly this results would more than likely look different today.

- Ok so we have a bit of insight on this following our Board Effectiveness Survey for 2022. We had close to 1K respondents to this survey And our survey said 69% said their Board is more effective in the last 12 months 62% noted increased collaboration 46% cited that board engagement was a primary driver of increased effectiveness This is just a snap shot of the survey and you are more than welcome to visit our website where you will be able to download the complete results.
- It’s back to you again for our 3rd poll question This one will be of interest Will you be introducing technology to your board room in 2022, well these not much left of 2022 so lets include 2023 meetings, And don’t look at technology as just board malmanagement software. You could just be considering changing your current paper based processes over to an electronic form for Assessments, Declarations of interest or any other paper based process you do with your Boards and committees, so if we can open this poll please and I’ll give you a short while to answer.
