The ancient Greek Olympics began in 776 BC and honored Zeus. The Olympic games included chariot racing, jockey races, boxing, and the pentathlon consisting of javelin, wrestling, discus, long jump and running. Only men and boys could participate as women were considered offensive to Zeus. Winners received rewards of gold, silver or bronze and the games continued until ending in 393 AD.
