The green industry has exploded into a multi-billion dollar phenomenon. No company wants to risk that their brand become associated with pollution, dangerous materials, wastefulness, or overall bad energy practices.
Businesses today are eager make themselves look more environmentally friendly than they really are by using words like “green,” “natural,” and “organic.” This practice of “greenwashing” does not always go un-noticed and could lead to claims of fraud, unfair competition, breach of contract, and customer backlash. Protect your company and your markets to ensure claims of greenwashing do not confuse or mislead your consumers. We’ll discuss the consequences of greenwashing, enforcement options, tips for developing environmentally-friendly branding programs, and strategies for creating new trademarks.
The students buried jars in the ground as bug traps to see what insects they could find. They were successful and caught worms, spiders, millipedes, springtails, and ants. The students also did leaf and bark rubbings for a class display tree and used a leaf book to identify trees in the schoolyard. On Fridays, the students wrote poems and did crafts about insects and bugs that could be found in the bush.
Today there is an ever-increasing pressure to get more out of the marketing, communications and research budgets. This demand is compounded by the need to reduce the time it takes to collect feedback, capture insights and discover new knowledge! Now more than ever, we need affordable access to quality online tools that are able to deliver actionable insights at a fraction of the cost of traditional face-to-face methods.
The document discusses server virtualization technologies and performance testing best practices. It provides details on:
1) The anatomy of a virtual system including hardware virtualization, type 1 and type 2 hypervisors, and allocating VM resources.
2) Key factors for performance testers including modeling virtual workloads, identifying bottlenecks, and effective testing techniques.
3) A case study where a company consolidated 18 servers onto 3 virtual hosts, reduced costs, and performance testing showed maintained or improved performance.
This document outlines a study examining how geography, agglomeration, and distance impact knowledge spillovers and innovative activities. It discusses relevant economic theories on how knowledge spillovers drive increasing returns and how their localization may impact convergence. The study aims to establish a direct link between these factors using a regional innovation dataset and spatial econometric models. It provides context on debates around defining and identifying spillovers as well as challenges in separating pure vs. pecuniary externalities.

This document discusses using transition dynamics and Markov chains to analyze regional economic convergence and divergence. It aims to use information on movements within the income distribution to examine determinants of regional growth. Specifically, it seeks to link the probability of transitions between different income classes to determinants of development, going beyond standard growth regressions. The authors introduce a multinomial logistic regression model to estimate transition probabilities and make them destination-specific while controlling for different factors in different development stages. The results could provide insights into why some regions transition between classes while others do not.
WHY ARE THERE INCREASED RATES OF HIV/AIDS IN AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN WHO USE B...rnice725
This document analyzes how historical medical conspiracies and abuse have led to increased HIV/AIDS rates in African American women using birth control. It discusses how medical experiments without consent on slaves and efforts to curb the black population through birth control promoted distrust in healthcare. Certain birth controls can increase HIV risk through side effects like bleeding and immune suppression. Lack of education on risks and follow-up care when side effects occur further endangers women. Addressing medical racism and improving access to community-based care and education are needed.
Children from four different schools collaborated to write a story about going on a hot air balloon ride and helping a kangaroo find her lost baby joey. They take the hot air balloon across the Australian bush, drop lost posters, and receive a call that the joey has been found by a bushman. They fly the hot air balloon to retrieve the joey, reunite it with its mother, and return home after their exciting adventure.

Ubuntu Code of Conduct Ubuntu is an African concep.docxmarilucorr
Ubuntu Code of Conduct
Ubuntu is an African concept of 'humanity towards others'. It is the 'belief in a universal
bond of sharing that connects all humanity'. The same ideas are central to the way the
Ubuntu community collaborates. Members of the Ubuntu community need to work
together effectively, and this code of conduct lays down the ground rules for our
cooperation. We chose the name Ubuntu for our operating system because we think it
captures perfectly the spirit of the sharing and cooperation that is at the heart of the open-
source movement. In the free software world, we collaborate freely on a volunteer basis
to build software for everyone's benefit. We improve on the work of others, which we
have been given freely, and then share our improvements on the same basis. That
collaboration depends on good relationships between developers. To this end, we've
agreed on the following code of conduct to help define the ways that we think
collaboration and cooperation should work. If you wish to sign the code of conduct, you
can sign the canonical copy online This code of conduct covers our behaviour as
members of the Ubuntu Community, in any forum, mailing list, wiki, website, Internet
relay chat (IRC) channel, install-fest, public meeting or private correspondence. Ubuntu
governance bodies are ultimately accountable to the Ubuntu Community Council and will
arbitrate in any dispute over the conduct of a member of the community.
• Be considerate. Our work will be used by other people, and we in turn will
depend on the work of others. Any decision we take will affect users and
colleagues, and we should take those consequences into account when making
decisions. Ubuntu has millions of users and thousands of contributors. Even if it's
not obvious at the time, our contributions to Ubuntu will impact the work of
others. For example, changes to code, infrastructure, policy, documentation and
translations during a release may negatively impact others' work.
• Be respectful. The Ubuntu community and its members treat one another with
respect. Everyone can make a valuable contribution to Ubuntu. We may not
always agree, but disagreement is no excuse for poor behaviour and poor
manners. We might all experience some frustration now and then, but we cannot
allow that frustration to turn into a personal attack. It's important to remember that
a community where people feel uncomfortable or threatened is not a productive
one. We expect members of the Ubuntu community to be respectful when dealing
with other contributors as well as with people outside the Ubuntu project and with
users of Ubuntu.
• Be collaborative. Collaboration is central to Ubuntu and to the larger free
software community. We encourage individuals and teams to work together
whether inside or outside the Ubuntu Project. This collaboration reduces
redundancy, and improves the quality of our work. Internally and externally, we
should always be op ...
This document discusses the governance of the Pandas open source project. It describes that Pandas has a Benevolent Dictator For Life (BDFL) named Wes McKinney who makes final decisions, but typically defers to consensus from the community and Core Team. The Core Team consists of major contributors and guides the code review and merging process. While Pandas and NumPy have similar governance structures overall, the key difference is that NumPy uses a veto voting system to ensure all perspectives, whereas Pandas' Core Team and BDFL make decisions.
1. The document summarizes feedback from FTBE members on how to improve promotion, dialogue, and sharing in 2021.
2. Members suggested updating the website member section, creating a content library, and investing in journalist relationships. They also recommended creating a "link sharing" community and YouTube channel.
3. For dialogue, members wanted help mapping regulators, training on expectations, and increasing regulator participation in events. They also wanted FTBE to advocate for the fintech sector.
4. Members saw value in collaborating with other associations on policy issues and member connections, and inviting those associations to events.

You Don't Need to be a Developer to ContributeNathan Handler
You do not need to be a developer to contribute to an open source project. In this talk, Nathan Handler will share his experience of working on Ubuntu as both a contributor and leader in the community. He will discuss topics such as patching bugs, mentorship, education, dispute resolution, documentation, and many other forms of contributing. While the talk is based on the Ubuntu community, most of the topics should be applicable to other large communities.

Chris Jones, Director of Product Management at BrainChip , presents the “Temporal Event Neural Networks: A More Efficient Alternative to the Transformer” tutorial at the May 2024 Embedded Vision Summit.
The expansion of AI services necessitates enhanced computational capabilities on edge devices. Temporal Event Neural Networks (TENNs), developed by BrainChip, represent a novel and highly efficient state-space network. TENNs demonstrate exceptional proficiency in handling multi-dimensional streaming data, facilitating advancements in object detection, action recognition, speech enhancement and language model/sequence generation. Through the utilization of polynomial-based continuous convolutions, TENNs streamline models, expedite training processes and significantly diminish memory requirements, achieving notable reductions of up to 50x in parameters and 5,000x in energy consumption compared to prevailing methodologies like transformers.
Integration with BrainChip’s Akida neuromorphic hardware IP further enhances TENNs’ capabilities, enabling the realization of highly capable, portable and passively cooled edge devices. This presentation delves into the technical innovations underlying TENNs, presents real-world benchmarks, and elucidates how this cutting-edge approach is positioned to revolutionize edge AI across diverse applications.

[OReilly Superstream] Occupy the Space: A grassroots guide to engineering (an...Jason Yip
The typical problem in product engineering is not bad strategy, so much as “no strategy”. This leads to confusion, lack of motivation, and incoherent action. The next time you look for a strategy and find an empty space, instead of waiting for it to be filled, I will show you how to fill it in yourself. If you’re wrong, it forces a correction. If you’re right, it helps create focus. I’ll share how I’ve approached this in the past, both what works and lessons for what didn’t work so well.

Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.

In the realm of cybersecurity, offensive security practices act as a critical shield. By simulating real-world attacks in a controlled environment, these techniques expose vulnerabilities before malicious actors can exploit them. This proactive approach allows manufacturers to identify and fix weaknesses, significantly enhancing system security.
This presentation delves into the development of a system designed to mimic Galileo's Open Service signal using software-defined radio (SDR) technology. We'll begin with a foundational overview of both Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and the intricacies of digital signal processing.
The presentation culminates in a live demonstration. We'll showcase the manipulation of Galileo's Open Service pilot signal, simulating an attack on various software and hardware systems. This practical demonstration serves to highlight the potential consequences of unaddressed vulnerabilities, emphasizing the importance of offensive security practices in safeguarding critical infrastructure.

HCL Notes and Domino License Cost Reduction in the World of DLAUpanagenda
Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-and-domino-license-cost-reduction-in-the-world-of-dlau/
The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Don’t worry, we can help with all of this!
We’ll show you how to fix common misconfigurations that cause higher-than-expected user counts, and how to identify accounts which you can deactivate to save money. There are also frequent patterns that can cause unnecessary cost, like using a person document instead of a mail-in for shared mailboxes. We’ll provide examples and solutions for those as well. And naturally we’ll explain the new licensing model.
Join HCL Ambassador Marc Thomas in this webinar with a special guest appearance from Franz Walder. It will give you the tools and know-how to stay on top of what is going on with Domino licensing. You will be able lower your cost through an optimized configuration and keep it low going forward.
These topics will be covered
- Reducing license cost by finding and fixing misconfigurations and superfluous accounts
- How do CCB and CCX licenses really work?
- Understanding the DLAU tool and how to best utilize it
- Tips for common problem areas, like team mailboxes, functional/test users, etc
- Practical examples and best practices to implement right away
2. Greetings from the Leader
●
It is intended for this meeting to last 30 minutes or
less
●
We have a few business items to be covered at this
time
●
Please follow along with the discussion in the IRC
channel as we work through these slides
●
Not everything will be covered in the slides alone...
3. Item #1 – Appointment of Deputy
●
Due to aggravated circumstances the Leader cannot
current sign the table contract for Ohio Linux Fest
– This primarily relates to complying with government
mandates existing in the Leader's personal life
– It remains the Leader's intent to be present at the event if at
all possible
●
It is necessary to seek a volunteer who will be
attending Ohio Linux Fest 2013 who can sign
the contract for the LoCo in this instance
4. Item #2 – Further Explanation of
Membership Shepherding Program
●
Ubuntu “Membership” is a signal mark that
shows continuing participation in the community
●
Certain benefits also accrue with that, including
the ability to vote on the confirmation of
nominees to the Community Council
●
The number of members of that group on
Launchpad seems to show a decline again
5. Item #2 – Further Explanation of
Membership Shepherding Program
●
We need to increase participation in Ohio
●
Growing the number of folks holding Ubuntu
“Membership” would allow us to have a core cadre of folks
who would be able to lead and provide examples to others
●
Once we have a comfortably higher number of folks
holding Ubuntu “Membership” it will then become
appropriate for elections to the Council to take place
6. Item #2 – Further Explanation of
Membership Shepherding Program
●
An extemely early wiki page for people to
indicate their wish to participate in this effort
can be found here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OhioTeam/Shepherding
●
Mentors within the community are desired,
where possible.
7. Item #3 – Mailing List/Forum/IRC
Communications Effectiveness
●
Which shall we use?
●
Which works best?
●
How shall we determine which to use?
9. Item #5 – Fix The Date For Next
Meeting
●
Prefer to meet before the next virtual Ubuntu
Developer summit which would mean July or
early August
●
Also need to get in touch with the LoCo Council
about when the “Verified Team” status regime
takes effect. We may have to have a meeting
concerning that at that time. Who can deputize
for that?
10. Item #6 – Educational Session:
Potpourri
●
Severe Weather Resources
●
FEMA Emergency Management Institute's “A
Citizens Guide to Disaster Assistance”
●
Ohio Resources For Help
●
NOAA Weather Radio
