Spending time with Family
Spending time
with them is a
very
important
occupation to
me as they
have shaped
my values.
They also
provide a
sense of
belonging.
They support
both
emotionally
and financially
(thankfully)
in many of my
occupation
such as
studying in
Dunedin and
travel.
Spending time with friends
Spending time with my friends is an important occupation to me, they provide
me with support and a sense of community, this is especially important as I am
living away from my family. They also engage in many of my occupations and,
make them a lot more enjoyable and increase my occupational satisfaction.
Church
Attending church is more to me than just visiting a building once a
week, my religion is central to who I am and church is a central
aspect to this. It provides a structured support system, a sense of
belonging and family. It is an occupation that is based around my
belief system.
Serving
Others
Engaging in volunteer
activities to serve other
people is something I
consider very
important, I have had
opportunities to serve
people in my own
community with
organizations such as
red frogs, but I have
also had the
opportunity to serve
overseas with a school
trip to India to work
with prostitutes in the
slums of India.
Completing this
occupation not only
gives me a huge sense
of occupational
satisfaction but also
shapes my
occupational identity.

Travel
Travel is an
occupation that I
have been
fortunate enough
to engage in over
my life time,
growing up in
England I have
made trips around
Europe and back
and forth to New
Zealand, I also have
had the
opportunity to visit
Asian countries
such as Singapore
and India. Travel
has been a
necessity to keep in
contact up
relationships with
family and friends
both in NZ and the
UK. It has also given
me the opportunity
to grow my
understanding of
other cultures.

Being a student of Occupational
Therapy
Studying to be an
occupational therapist
in Dunedin is my
central occupation as it
is the reason I am
living in Dunedin and
will shape my
occupational identity
for the rest of my life.
It is also a big part of
my occupational
identity as it provides
me with the role of
Otago Student, all my
other occupations are
shaped around this.
Skiing
Skiing is a n occupation that I have been involved in from childhood both my
parents and wider family is involved with and is something I really enjoy as a sport
and way of connecting with my family. It holds many memories and is a large part
of my occupational identity.
Tramping
Tramping is an
occupation, like
skiing that I have
grown up with,
therefore it is a
large part of my
occupational
identity. It is
something that I
originally engaged
in with my parents
but has now moved
into something I do
with my friends and
my boyfriend. It
provides a good
opportunity to
enjoy New
Zealand's beautiful
landscape, do
physical exercise
and build stronger
relationships.

Running
Running is a new occupation that I have started engaging in since moving to
Dunedin. It started as just a fitness activity but it has now become something that I
can’t go without, provides me with a great way to escape the busyness of study and
have a break to clear my head, it provides me with a sense of occupational
satisfaction and makes up part of my occupational identity.
