3. Method for establishing occlusion
relationship
a. Direct apposition of cast
b. Inter occlusal records with posterior teeth remaining
c. Occlusal relations using occlusion rims on record bases
d. Jaw relations records made entirely on occlusion rims
e. Establishing occlusion by the recording of occlusal
pathways
4. 1. Direct apposition of casts
• at least 3-4 positive contacts between the posterior
natural teeth at each arch
• the upper and lower casts can be opposed by hands
against each other.
• sticky wax and wire loops are needed to fix the cast
together.
5. • this method can only preserve the existing occlusal vertical
dimension and occlusal disharmony present between the natural
dentition.
• direct apposition of opposing casts at least eliminates the possibility
that the patient may have a faulty jaw relationship.
6.
7. 2.Interocclusal records with posterior teeth remaining
• (kennedy class III or IV) but the relation of opposing natural
teeth does not permit the occluding of cast by hand so in this
case jaw relations must be established as for fixed restorations
with some type of interocclusal record.
• Least accurate because bulk consistency and
accuracy of the wax will influence recording of
centric relation with an interocclusal wax record after
chilling.
8. • Excess wax may distort the soft tissue
preventing accurate seating.
9. pprocedure
A uniformly softened, metal reinforced wafer of baseplate or set-up wax is
placed between the teeth and the patient is guided to close in centric
relation.
wax is removed and immediately chilled thoroughly in room
temperature water.
it should be replaced a second time to correct the distortion that
results from chilling and then chilled after removal.
all excess wax should be removed with a sharp knife.
all wax that contacts mucosal surfaces be trimmed free of contact.
the chilled wax record again should be replaced to make sure that no
contact with soft tissue occurs.
10. A wax record can be further corrected with a freely flowing occlusal
registration material (metallic oxide paste)
the opposing teeth and also the patient’s lips and dentist’s gloves should
firstly be lightly coated with petroleum jelly or a silicone preparation.
the occlusal registration material then is mixed and applied to both sides of
the metal-reinforced wax record.
After the occlusal registration material has set, the corrected wax record is
removed. Such a record should seat on accurate cast without discrepancy or
interference and will provide accurate inter-occlusal record.
Before it is used for mounting the registration is trimmed to allow complete
seating of the cast without distortion of material.
11. • Three important details to be observed when
one uses such a material are as follows
1. Make sure that the occlusion is satisfactory
before making the interocclusal record.
2. Be sure that the casts are accurate
reproductions of the teeth being recorded.
3. Trim the record with a sharp knife.
12.
13.
14. 3.Occlusal relations using occlusion rims on record bases
Indication:
In case of distal extension areas.
A tooth-supported edentulous space is large
No contact between opposing natural teeth.
• Record bases should be made on the master casts or its duplicate cast
(functional or anatomical impression)
•Record bases can be of VLC / Autopolymerising resin / Cast metal /
Compression molded / Heat cured
15.
16.
17. METHODS FOR RECORDING CENTRIC RELATION
ON RECORD BASES
• Softened wax or Modeling plastic occlusal rims can be used.
• Slightly reduced in height at the established vertical dimension.
• A single stop is added to maintain the height.
• Impression plaster ZINC OXIDE EUGENOL paste may be used
for as recording medium
18. 4. Jaw relation record made entirely on occlusion
rims
• When no occlusal contact occurs between the
remaining natural teeth,
• Are situations in which the few remaining teeth
do not occlude and will not influence eccentric
jaw movements.
• Anterior teeth present
19. when no remaining natural teeth contact exist opposing a
bilateral distal extension edentulous areas some direct
Interocclusal record or Stylus tracing method can be used
for recording jaw relation.
20.
21. 5.Establishing occlusion by the recording of
occlusal pathways
• fifth method
• The use of an occluding template rather than a
cast of the opposing arch.
• When a static jaw relation record is used, with
or without eccentric articulatory movements,
the prosthetically supplied teeth are arranged to
occlude according to a specific concept of
occlusion.
• On the other hand, when a functional occlusal
record is used, the teeth are modified to accept
every recorded eccentric jaw movement
22. Record bases are made on the master cast
Wax used should be hard enough to support the biting forces
Peck’s purple hard inlay wax can be used
It should be wide bulky keep wax 1-3mm high
Ask the patient to wear for 24 to 48 hours
23. Should be worn in night also, it is only removed during meals
After 24 hours wax should show continuous gloss
Remaining teeth should be in positive contact
Boxing of the registration is done with modeling clay after it has
reseated and secured on to the master cast
Only the registration area & vertical stops are left exposed
It is then filled with hard stone to form an occluding template
24. Conclusion
• For a successful removable partial denture, the
occlusal pattern of the natural teeth should be
harmonized with the temporomandibular
joints, and this same occlusal pattern should
be incorporated into the artificial teeth.
• When this procedure is followed, the comfort,
efficiency, and longevity of the removable
partial denture is greatly enhanced
