Artificial intelligence (AI) is everywhere, promising self-driving cars, medical breakthroughs, and new ways of working. But how do you separate hype from reality? How can your company apply AI to solve real business problems?
Here’s what AI learnings your business should keep in mind for 2017.
Study: The Future of VR, AR and Self-Driving CarsLinkedIn
We asked LinkedIn members worldwide about their levels of interest in the latest wave of technology: whether they’re using wearables, and whether they intend to buy self-driving cars and VR headsets as they become available. We asked them too about their attitudes to technology and to the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the devices that they use. The answers were fascinating – and in many cases, surprising.
This SlideShare explores the full results of this study, including detailed market-by-market breakdowns of intention levels for each technology – and how attitudes change with age, location and seniority level. If you’re marketing a tech brand – or planning to use VR and wearables to reach a professional audience – then these are insights you won’t want to miss.

Managing Emergency Evacuations of the Elderly, Impoverished, and Disabled Com...Dr. Terrance Jackson
This dissertation is a study on the management of emergency evacuations as it pertains tothe elderly, impoverished, and disabled communities. Each of the special needs communities, which are the focus of this study are often an afterthought in both the planning and execution phases of emergency evacuations. It is important that the emergency management community improves its management of emergency evacuation and interactions with the local populaces to prevent travesties
similar to those that occurred prior to, during, and following hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Following the 2005 hurricane season, the federal government has provided ample funding to states and local governments for emergency planning. While the funding is tracked to the point they are dispensed, there is no accountability as to fulfilling the requirements defined in the National Response Framework or the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act.

Thank you, Grace, for that heartwarming introduction - we really are best friends! I also want to thank my father, Dr. James S.C. Chao, who is here with me tonight, as well as my sister Elaine, and Grace's husband Gordon - my family is my greatest source of strength, and to have so many of them with me tonight makes this evening so special for all of us. Thank you.
I am honored and humbled by the Dynamic Achiever Award you have bestowed upon me tonight. I remember as a young girl coming to OCA events - at the time you recognized in my oldest sister Elaine her commitment to and excellence in public service - and you were right to do so! You caught a rising star! But there are also many unsung heroes that make valuable contributions to our worlds, our communities, our families, even ourselves.
My unsung hero is my mother, Mrs. Ruth Mulan Chu Chao. She passed on August 2, 2007, but she remains with me everyday. As a young girl, she taught me to be strong, know who I am, be self-reliant and think for myself. If I complained about kids making fun of me for being Chinese or overheard sexist jokes or comments about being a girl or from a family of six daughters (and unfortunately a lot of the sexist jokes or comments came from adults!), my mother told me not to get mad - but to prove them wrong. She didn't allow wallowing or self indulgent behavior. She expected a great deal of me, but I knew it was because she thought i could do it - and that gave me the confidence and strength to try.
We as Chinese Americans, and Asian Americans more broadly, have an enormous well of strength in our families, our cultural histories and our philosophical teachings. And we are in America - the land of opportunity and where we have a chance to make our dreams come true like no other place in the world. We are not victims. Everyone in this room today is privileged and part of this organization because we want to give back. And we have so much to give back - each and every life in this room is rich with experiences, lessons learned, triumphs, and yes,
3. failures, too - there is no shame in failure - we learn a lot from failures, and it's often a much better teacher than success.
So thank you to OCA for honoring me here tonight. Thank you also for allowing me to share this award in front of my father, who never had the privilege to share his achievements with his parents as they did not live to see them. I am humbled to receive this wonderful award, and also am so excited to see and hear about the wonderful things each of you are doing in your lives for your families, for our communities and for our world. Thank you again!
