The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).
AI Trends in Creative Operations 2024 by Artwork Flow.pdfmarketingartwork
Creative operations teams expect increased AI use in 2024. Currently, over half of tasks are not AI-enabled, but this is expected to decrease in the coming year. ChatGPT is the most popular AI tool currently. Business leaders are more actively exploring AI benefits than individual contributors. Most respondents do not believe AI will impact workforce size in 2024. However, some inhibitions still exist around AI accuracy and lack of understanding. Creatives primarily want to use AI to save time on mundane tasks and boost productivity.
Organizational culture includes values, norms, systems, symbols, language, assumptions, beliefs, and habits that influence employee behaviors and how people interpret those behaviors. It is important because culture can help or hinder a company's success. Some key aspects of Netflix's culture that help it achieve results include hiring smartly so every position has stars, focusing on attitude over just aptitude, and having a strict policy against peacocks, whiners, and jerks.

It operates through a divisional structure with a focus on local consumers.

Google's Just Not That Into You: Understanding Core Updates & Search IntentLily Ray
1. Core updates from Google periodically change how its algorithms assess and rank websites and pages. This can impact rankings through shifts in user intent, site quality issues being caught up to, world events influencing queries, and overhauls to search like the E-A-T framework.
2. There are many possible user intents beyond just transactional, navigational and informational. Identifying intent shifts is important during core updates. Sites may need to optimize for new intents through different content types and sections.
3. Responding effectively to core updates requires analyzing "before and after" data to understand changes, identifying new intents or page types, and ensuring content matches appropriate intents across video, images, knowledge graphs and more.

Eiendomsspekulant Carl Fredrik Seim (39)
millioner mer enn hva Seim ga for verftet.
Bare
på de to første årene etter årtusenskiftet
hadde han kjøpt luksuseiendommer, biler og
båt for til sammen 30 millioner kroner.
Gjennom en felles kunstbekjent kom
Seim i kontakt med sin fremtidige parhest,
finansmannen og kunsthandleren Tor Arne
Uppstrøm (69). De begynte så å gjøre flere
eiendomshandler sammen. I 2002, da Seim
i Bergen. Vågen Brygge Invest, med Knut
Jørgen Hauge og John Einar Thorbjørnsen
i spissen, kjøper verftstomten på Marine-
holmen for omlag 200 millioner kroner. Like
Wiggens, viste at Uppstrøm hadde tatt ut ca.
Sommeren 2003 blir Carl Fredrik Seim
arrestert på Bergen Lufthavn Flesland etter
en seilferie i Middelhavet, siktet for grov
økonomisk utroskap og regnskapsovertredel-
ser. I februar 2004 blir Seim slått personlig
konkurs og i 2005 blir Seim og Uppstrøm
tiltalt for urettmessige uttak av nærmere 70
millioner kroner fra Mjellem & Karlsen og
andre selskaper.
Ikke alle eventyr ender like godt.

investor Kjell G. Finstad (73) eiendommer
for en milliard kroner i Norge, deriblant flere
store industrieiendommer i Stavanger og
Bergen. Finstad eide i tillegg en rekke eien-
dommer i Asker, Bærum, Røyken og Fredrik-
stad gjennom ulike selskaper. Finstad hadde
opparbeidet seg en solid formue gjennom
oljeleting og i 1998 var oljeselskapet hans
Nopec International verdsatt til 1,4 milli-
arder kroner. Gevinsten fra oljevirksomheten
ble blant annet plasserte i eiendom gjennom
investeringsselskapet Norex Group.
ners gamle industrieiendom i Lodalen.
For den 230.000 kvadratmeter store eien-
325 millioner kroner. Planene for tomten
Dessverre for
Finstad var både myndigheter og naboer
svært negative til planene som etter hvert
ble skrinlagt. Det tok derfor ikke mer enn
halvannet år før eiendommen skiftet eier.
Den tidligere eplehageentreprenøren Øyvind
Hornnæss bladde opp 420 millioner kroner
og sikret seg den gamle industritomten.
Fra et overskudd på 30 millioner kroner
i 2000 gikk Norex Group med et dundren-
de underskudd på 230 millioner kroner
året etter. Egenkapitalen var samtidig blitt
negativ. I 2002 slo Fokus Bank selskapet
konkurs.
Finstad ble i 2010 dømt for grov utro-
skap, brudd på straffeloven, verdipapirhan-
delloven, regnskapsloven og aksjeloven. De
straffbare forholdene knytter seg til driften
av selskapet Norex Group og det tidligere
børsnoterte seismikkselskapet Global Geo
Services. Finstad, som var 71 år når han fikk
dommen, slapp i følge Dagens Næringsliv
fengselsstraff på grunn av den årelange et-
terforskningen. Han bor i dag i USA.
EIENDOMSEVENTYR
Kjell. G. Finstad kjøpte eiendommen i 1998 og solgte
den videre i år 2000 til Øyvind Hornnæss.

Kommunen har derimot gitt tommelen
ned til alle forslagene. KC Invest varslet
høsten 2012 erstatningskrav i millionklassen
kjente byggeplanene for tomten i oktober
i fjor.
for 25 millioner kroner.
lerede.
HYTTER TIL BESVÆR
I november 2011 kjøpte Øyvind Hornnæss 45
hyttetomter i Lutukroken utenfor Trysil. For
hver tomt la han 75.000 kroner på bordet,
eller i underkant av 3,4 millioner kroner
totalt. Noen dager senere solgte Hornnæss
tomtene videre for 200.000 kroner stykket,
tilsvarende ni millioner kroner til sammen.
På fem dager hadde verdien på tomtene altså
steget med formidable 170 prosent. Kjøper
var hans eget selskap KC Invest As.
De siste har årene har Hornnæss også
jobbet på et utviklingsprosjekt i Skiptvet
kommune i Østfold. Her var planen å bygge
28 hytter. Høsten 2012 var flere av hyttene
enda ikke påbegynt. For disse to og 28 andre
eiendomsprosjekter lånte Hornnæss til
sammen 80 millioner kroner av DNB. Sikker-
banken.
KORRUPSJONSTILTALE
vilget. Han er siktet for å ha mottatt 235.000
kroner i bestikkelser av Hornnæss og hans
byggeleder Harald Grøndahl. Den DNB-an-
satte fikk sparken av banken i februar 2012.
Overleveringen av lånedokumentasjon og
kontanter skal ha skjedd i Hornnæss sin
bil utenfor banklokalet. Hornnæss ble av
Økokrim siktet for grov korrupsjon.
I sakens anledning fikk DNB arrest for
13,6 millioner kroner i en villa Hornnæss
på daværende tidspunkt prøvde å selge i
Holmenkollåsen i Oslo.
sjektet i Skipstet. Villaen lå ute i markedet for
17,9 millioner kroner.

gode penger gjennom selskapet NunKun.
Selskapet hadde også to nybygg i prosjekteringsfasen.
rundt 1,3 milliarder kroner.
Stjernemegler
IEGETHUS
Petter Andreas Poppe var en av hovedstadens
mest profilerte meglere på 2000-tallet og
startet i 2007 det største frittstående megler-
foretaket i Norge, Poppe & Co Eiendomsmeg-
ling. Ikke lenge etter solgte han halvparten av
selskapet for rundt 50 millioner kroner til
Nordisk Eiendomsforretning, men forpliktet
seg til å fortsette i selskapet. Poppes private
selskap Fredrikke Holding hadde i 2008 et
overskudd før skatt på 108 millioner kroner.
Idyllen sprakk imidlertid for Poppe & Co.
Flere av selskapets stjernemeglere sluttet i
selskapet. Samtidig var virksomheten pre-
get av underskudd og økonomisk rot. Poppe
& Co Eiendomsmegling ble også dømt til å
betale erstatning til Krystallen Eiendom
etter at selskapet ikke hadde gjort jobben
sin i forbindelse med leilighetssalg i fritids-
leilighetsprosjektet Krystallen på Kvitfjell. I
maet.
store penger i sitt private selskap Fredrikke
Holding de siste årene fikk selskapet et over-
skudd på 900.000 i 2011. Poppe eier også
et garasjeanlegg i Bogstadveien 1 som han i
2008 kjøpte for drøye 50 millioner kroner.
Garasjeanlegget hadde i årsberetningen for
2011 et negativt resultat før skatt på 566.000.
Tappet Under-
visningsbygg
Den tidligere eiendomssjefen i Under-
visningsbygg, Frank Murud, soner i dag
en fengselsstraff på syv år for korrupsjon
og grov økonomisk utroskap. I 2006 ble
det avdekket at han hadde tappet Under-
visningsbygg for nærmere 90 millioner
kroner mellom 2003 og 2006. Mellom
1996 og 2003 tappet han NEAS for drøye ni
millioner kroner ved å skrive fiktive faktu-
raer.
Lunde Eiendom og Lunde Gruppen As.
Lunde Eiendom. Strafferammen for økonomisk utroskap er på inntil
seks års fengsel. Johs Lunde Eiendom skiftet i 2011 navn til Vendere
Eiendom.
Høsten 2011 begjærte styret i Faktor Eiendom selskapet konkurs.

ferdig. 72 av 90 leiligheter var
solgt. Totalt var prosjektet på 210
leiligheter.
Sommeren 2006 begjærte sel-
skapet bak hytteprosjektet,
Fageråsen Utvikling, seg selv
konkurs. De satt da med 269
millioner kroner i ubetalte reg-
ninger. I november 2006 gjen-
nomførte Økokrim en razzia hos
fire nøkkelpersoner i Fageråsen
Utvikling. Etter razziaen ble to
personer ble siktet for grov økon-
omisk utroskap og to for overtre-
delse av regnskapsloven.
I desember 2012, seks år etter
konkursen, ble prosjektsjefen i
selskapet dømt til ni måneders
fengsel. Mannen ble først dømt
til 3,5 år i fengsel i Oslo tingrett
sommeren 2008, men dommen
ble opphevet fordi dommerfull-
mektigen i saken var inhabil.
Prosjektsjefen skal ha unnlatt å
føre regnskap for selskapet og i
lånesøknadene ble det lagt frem
prosjektinformasjon som ga et
feil bilde av risikoen ved pros-
jektet. En av de øvrige eierne
i Fageråsen Utvikling AS ble i
2009 dømt til fengsel i 60 dager,
hvorav 15 dager betinget for til-
svarende regnskapsovertredelser
som prosjektlederen også er
dømt for. Daglig leder og sty-
releder ble i 2010 dømt til feng-
sel i 90 dager, også de for tils-
varende regnskapsovertredelser.
