N.W.A. was a highly influential West Coast rap group from the 1980s. They helped establish gangsta rap and pushed boundaries with their controversial lyrics. The group was comprised of rappers Ice Cube, Eazy-E, MC Ren and DJ Yella, with productions from Dr. Dre. Though they only lasted a few years together, N.W.A. inspired many modern rappers and launched the careers of its members. Their competitive natures led to solo careers and label disputes but also drove innovation in the rap industry.
