This document summarizes an exhibit called "No More Empty Shoes" that was presented by various groups to raise awareness about the harms of tobacco use. The exhibit featured 1,200 pairs of shoes representing the number of people who die daily in the US from tobacco-related illnesses. It included artwork, memorials, and information about the health effects of tobacco use and secondhand smoke. The exhibit was intended to motivate people to support tobacco prevention and cessation programs.
Welcome to our FringeStream series, our monthly magazine exploring how the fringes of culture are shaping mass behaviors. What happens when fragmentation, diversity and the choice to live differently becomes the new normal?
This month we explore Fallout Families, which challenges us to think about family structures differently and brings to life what new family norms look like, moving beyond the traditional - and increasingly outdated - model of the nuclear family.
This month in our ongoing FringeStream series, our monthly magazine exploring how the fringes of culture are shaping mass behaviors, we're digging into the a topic that tempts us all: FOOD. In gaining an understanding of FringeStream Food, we've unearthed some interesting findings that recognize how the simultaneous celebration of food culture and turmoil of traditional food systems have led to mainstream confusion over what to eat. Find out how empowered groups are moving beyond our over reliance on over-processed convenience food to create new opportunities and an increasing Appetite for Conviction.

New partnership at Christmas
We’re delighted to announce that we are now officially partnered with the New Testament Assembly in Tooting (NTA) in their long-established programme to deliver food hampers to people in Wandsworth at Christmas.
The Christmas Hamper Project was launched back in December 2008, by the late Amy Rose Powell MBE from the Women 2 Women ministry. She was concerned about members of the NTA Tooting Church, and people in the wider community, who were experiencing difficult times.
Responding to hardship
The project provides a box of food as a gift at Christmas to individuals or families in need – whatever their religious persuasion or ethnicity. Most of the boxes go to single parents, pensioners and households on a low income. The hampers – 2,914 of them in the past eight years – are delivered individually or via community groups.
The scriptural reference for the project is taken from Matthew 25:35-46:
“…for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me…
“Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.”
PCU sees this project as an important element of our corporate social responsibility programme. Corporate social responsibility is about contributing to the improvement of the community we are part of in some substantial way – and doing so in line with our ethics and values.
We view the local Christmas hamper programme as an essential local social service to individuals and families in desperate need at Christmas and we are privileged to take part in this.

Planners in advertising embark upon all sorts of quests to uncover the truths about our audiences, learning about people through data and focus groups— eXploring, as we call it at Y&R. But rarely do they attempt something as ambitious as a recent Y&R project: seven days of literal exploration in Myanmar, a country that’s a mystery to the outside world.
Through the pains of early British colonization and decades of military rule, today’s Myanmar is finally emerging from isolation. We wanted to understand this wildcard of a country—and potential new market. Rather than researching from a distance, we explored the country. The result is a new VML, Y&R, VICE Media collaboration: an adventurous, groundbreaking new feature called “7 Days Out.”
The collaboration was the brainchild of VML Singapore planning director, Rahul Chawra. Vice Media sent VML Planner Siddharth Seth to Yangon, the cultural capital of Myanmar, where he immersed himself for seven days in its culture and uncovered unexpected and inspiring insights. In “The New Faces of Yangon” Seth met with modern day artists, spiritual leaders, business innovators, and trailblazers like Thazin Nyut Aung from the female rap group Y.A.K.

trend?
Please support programs that help kids quit using

7. 1200 People Die Each Day In US
Each pair of shoes in this exhibit represents a life
lost because of tobacco. Tobacco use took 1200
people today, yesterday and will continue to take
1200 people each day until “WE” stop this deadly
trend.
8.
9. Sad Faces of Our Innocent Victims
No More Empty Shoes was a district‐wide project involving elementary,
middle and high school students. This sections was done by Elementary
students expressing how tobacco affects them . Their sad faces are
worth more than a 1000 words!

13. The “Silent Killer” – Big Tobacco
The students painted images from a 1919 horror film. The images show
how the silent killer lurks, grabs and takes its victims to the height of
addiction.
14. Giant 3D Lungs with self‐images
These lungs took over 100 hours to complete by the high school art
classes. The paper is all hand crafted. The students carved images of
themselves on wood and then stamped their images on paper.
15. This slide shows the size of the lungs in comparison to our
visitors. Visitors were awed by the creativity expressed in this
exhibit and saddened by the reality brought to light.
16. You Never Know When The Silent Killer Will Come
More images from the film. The paintings were done on recycled paper.
One of the images was painted on the history of Hitler. Shows how
tobacco can control and kill. Artists: C.J. Bracy & Nick Coppola
17. A black light was used in this section of the exhibit to create an eerie,
dramatic effect. The lungs, paintings, words, shoes and visitors alike “lit”
up in this section to help visitors see how scary tobacco really can be.
18. Memorials Honored Our Loved Ones Who Have
Passed From Tobacco‐Related Diseased
Loving remembrances remind us of the true cost of tobacco use. The
ones left behind suffer in grief for those they loved.
19. Now We Are Left With Memories
We had shoes and memorials from as far away ah Ohio! Many celebrity
faces lined our memorial walk to show that tobacco‐related diseases
show no mercy—no matter who you are or how much money you make.
20. Our Exhibit is dedicated to Marcus as he was a
strong advocate for tobacco awareness.
Marcus devoted a great deal of his time talking to teens about the true
consequences of tobacco use. He spoke to many teens in our cessation
program about how tobacco use changed his life and those around him.
21. WE ARE ALL AFFECTED BY TOBACCO USE! WE ALL
