Nikola Tesla was a scientist and inventor born in 1856 who specialized in electricity. He made important contributions to physics and engineering, inventing alternating current which allowed electricity to travel long distances. Though his ideas were ahead of his time, many were never built due to lack of support. Tesla had disagreements with Thomas Edison over electricity types and founded his own company. He is now recognized for pioneering technologies still used today like electric motors, X-rays, and wireless transmission.
