2. NIDOS Business Objective 1
Improved effectiveness of more
Scottish international
development organisations
3. Why a small organisations toolkit?
• International Development Effectiveness and
quality standards were largely developed by
and for large organisations – e.g. HAP,
SPHERE, People in Aid etc
• NIDOS members are mainly small
organisations and these standards were not
suitable for their needs
• There was a clear demand from members for
a simpler tool, for self-assessment
4. New NIDOS Effectiveness toolkit
• Simpler tool for small organisations
• More focus on operational issues, not just
principles
• Quick ‘basic check’ stage to start followed by a
more in-depth review
New tool is 2 stage:
1. MOT 2. Full Assessment
8. NIDOS support ...
• MOT facilitation
• Presentations to your Board re benefits
• Mentoring for MOTs and Full Assessments
• Organisational surgeries / advice
• Case studies of how others have used it
• Peer networking session
9. For larger organisations...
Bond Health Check
• Bond has developed the Health Check –
similar purpose to NIDOS Effectiveness Toolkit
• Bond’s Health Check is more comprehensive -
suitable for bigger and more complex
organisations but can be used by any sized
organisation
• For those wanting to check it out:

10. Thank you to all those members who:

Very big thank you to those who have worked
very hard over the last year in the NIDOS
members’ Good Practice Working Group
