John Steers is an accomplished student at Elon University who enjoys snowboarding, golf, and music in his free time. He was formerly a competitive squash player and a member of the varsity squash team at Canterbury School in Connecticut. Squash is a popular racquet sport played by over 20 million people worldwide, especially in England, Canada, and Australia. In the U.S., professional squash is governed by U.S. Squash, which organizes the prestigious U.S. Open tournament annually. In October 2013, world number one Nicol David defended her women's title against Laura Massaro, while Gregory Gaultier won his first men's title since 2006 against Nick Matthew.
